Card Reference (Quick Guide)
Each card has a value (1–9) and a unique effect triggered when played:
- 9 – Princess: If you discard this card (by choice or force), you are immediately out of the round.
- 8 – Countess: You must play this card if you also have the King (7) or Prince (5) in your hand.
- 7 – King: Trade your hand card with another player of your choice.
- 6 – Chancellor: Draw two cards. Keep one of the three cards in your hand (the two drawn + your original) and put the other two back on the bottom of the deck.
- 5 – Prince: Choose any player (including yourself) to discard their hand and draw a new one.
- 4 – Handmaid: You are protected from all effects of other players' cards until your next turn.
- 3 – Baron: Secretly compare hands with another player. The player with the lower value is out of the round.
- 2 – Priest: Secretly look at another player's hand.
- 1 – Guard: Name a non-Guard card and choose a player. If they have that card, they are out of the round.
- 0 – Spy: If you are the only player still in the round who played or discarded a Spy, you gain 1 bonus point (token) at the end of the round.
Objective
The goal is to deliver your love letter to the Princess. You win a round by having the highest-value card at the end or being the last player remaining.
Gameplay
The game is played in quick turns clockwise:
- Draw: Start your turn by drawing one card from the deck (you now have two in hand).
- Play: Choose one of your two cards and play it face-up in front of you.
- Resolve: Apply the card's effect immediately (see the list above).
- If all opponents are protected by a Handmaid, your card effect fails.
- If an effect forces you to choose a target and everyone else is protected, you must choose yourself if possible (e.g., Prince).
Round End & Scoring
A round ends immediately if:
- The deck is empty: All remaining players compare their hand cards. The highest value wins.
- Only one player remains: If everyone else is knocked out, the last person standing wins.
The winner receives a Token of Affection (point). The first player to reach the required number of tokens (based on player count) wins the game.
