Objective

In Quest Inc., you manage a questing agency. Your goal is to accumulate the most gold by winning quest auctions and collecting valuable treasure sets.

Gameplay Overview

The game is played over several rounds, consisting of four phases:

1. Dawn (Setup)

  • Citizen cards (contractors) are placed at the market.
  • New Hero cards are dealt under the various City locations.

2. Morning (The Auction)

Players participate in a reverse auction for available quests.

  • Bidding: You bid the amount of gold you want to be PAID for completing the mission.
  • Lowering the Bid: To stay in, you must offer a lower price than the previous bidder.
  • Winning: The lowest bidder takes the Quest card, any Treasure cards tucked underneath, the gold, and the turn order marker.
  • King’s Compensation: If no one bids, the last eligible player is forced to take the quest but receives the citizen's maximum pay plus a 5 gold bonus.

3. Afternoon (Recruiting & City Actions)

In turn order (1, 2, 3...), players place two assistants at City locations.

  • Actions: At a location, you can hire up to 3 heroes (pay their gold cost) and/or use the local ability:
    • Town Square: Gain gold.
    • Tavern: Buy Beer (increases hero strength).
    • Potion Shop: Buy Potions (one-time bonuses).

4. Night (Completing Quests)

  • To complete a quest, your heroes must match the required class icons and their combined strength must meet or exceed the quest's difficulty.
  • Success: Used heroes are discarded; treasures are kept for end-game scoring.
  • Delaying: Unfinished quests remain in your player area for future turns.

Quick Reference Guide

Hero Classes (Icons)

  • Warrior (Sword): High strength, used for combat-heavy quests.
  • Mage (Staff): Required for arcane or magical challenges.
  • Rogue (Dagger): Necessary for stealth-based missions.
  • Cleric (Ankh): Often required for support or holy tasks.

Treasure Collections (Set Scoring)

  • Runes: Higher multipliers for each unique rune collected.
  • Legendary Items: High fixed point values for completing specific sets.
  • Artifacts/Creatures: Usually pairs or triplets that grant bonus gold.

End of Game & Scoring

  • Gold: All your remaining cash.
  • Treasures: The total value of your completed sets.
  • Penalties: Subtract the strength value of any unfulfilled quests from your total gold.
  • The player with the most gold wins!
