==Pre-Game==
== Overview ==
Each player begins with a selection of five bird cards, one of each food type (there are five types), and two bonus objective cards--from which they will then select what to keep as follows:

===Selecting cards to keep===
* In ''Wingspan'', each player will collect birds, each of which costs eggs and food to place.
* First, each player chooses how many bird cards to keep.
* Each bird is worth points and has a special power.
* Then, however, for each bird card kept, the player then must discard one food. (So, the more birds kept, the less food the player has at the start of the game.)
* Make the right decisions and place the birds in the right environments to complete goals and earn points.
* Finally, each player gets to choose to keep one of two bonus objective cards for the game.

==Playing the Game==
==Objective==
The player with the most points at the end wins.

===Turn Actions===
==Setup==
On each player's turn, that player may choose to do one of the following:
* Gain Food: Collect additional food from the available options in the tray;
* Lay Eggs: Collect and distribute eggs;
* Draw Bird Cards: Collect a new bird card from the three available options; or
* Place a bird card in its habitat (row) on the board and pay its food cost(s)

===Habitats and Activating Birds===
Each player begins with:
If players choose to place birds on the board, some birds have Activations (brown) that trigger from their habitat (row) being selected for action later. Note that placing a bird card in a row does not activate either its benefits nor the benefits of any other birds in that row.

Placing birds in the same habitats repeatedly has an increasing cost in 'eggs', which must be removed from birds that have eggs placed on them already.
* Five randomly dealt bird cards
* One of each food type ({{Text|seed|gold}}, {{Text|invertebrate|lightgreen}}, {{Text|fruit|red}}, {{Text|rodent|gray}}, and {{Text|fish|lightblue}})
* Two bonus cards indicating a personal goal

===Actions and Rounds===
Before the game starts, each player chooses how many of their bird cards to keep.
Wingspan is played over 4 rounds. Each round ends when all players have done all of their actions. Each round has a reducing number of actions (i.e., each successive round is shorter).

==Scoring and Objectives==
* For each bird card kept, the player must discard one food.
Your goal is to collect the most points.
* The more birds kept, the less food the player has at the start of the game.

===Round Objectives===
Before the game starts, the player must choose '''which''' of the two bonus cards to keep. You may only have one bonus card.
Each round of the game has different objectives which offer points for completing certain criteria. (These are noted in the square box)
Points are also distributed according to one's rank in each round.

===End of Game Scoring===
==Gameplay==
Each player scores points from the following:

* Point values as noted on each bird they have placed on the playing board;
=== Rounds ===
* One point for each card 'tucked' under a bird card;
The game is played over four rounds.
* Each food token 'cached' on a bird card;

===== Food =====
Food is found in the "birdfeeder" (dice tower), where five dice are rolled to determine what food is available. Each time a player takes a "Gain Food" action, they remove a die from the birdfeeder to gain the token shown on the die. When the birdfeeder is empty, all five dice are rerolled.

If all dice in the birdfeeder show the same face, the player can choose to reroll all dice before taking any food. This can even be done if there is only 1 die left in the birdfeeder. Note: the dice with both a worm and wheat on the same die counts as its own unique face.

You may use 2 of any food in place of 1 specific food.

====Bird Powers====

Nearly all birds have some text on the bottom of their card with some kind of ability or advantage. A skull icon next to the power indicates that bird is a predator.

'''"When Activated" (brown)''': When you take the ''Gain Food'', ''Lay Eggs'', or ''Draw Bird Cards'' actions, the action cube representing your turn is placed on the leftmost unoccupied space in the corresponding habitat. From there, the cube moves left onto each bird in the habitat. If the bird has a brown power, it activates. The "Play a Bird" action does not activate any of its benefits nor the benefits of other birds in that row.

'''"Once Between Turns" (pink)''': These powers trigger during the opponent's turn, but only once before your next turn.

'''"When Played" (white)''': These powers only activate once, when the bird is played.

The player who has the most points wins. In the case of a tie, the player with the most unused food tokens wins. If it's still a tie, tied players share the victory.

Overview

  • In Wingspan, each player will collect birds, each of which costs eggs and food to place.
  • Each bird is worth points and has a special power.
  • Make the right decisions and place the birds in the right environments to complete goals and earn points.

Objective

The player with the most points at the end wins.

Setup

Each player begins with:

  • Five randomly dealt bird cards
  • One of each food type (seed, invertebrate, fruit, rodent, and fish)
  • Two bonus cards indicating a personal goal

Before the game starts, each player chooses how many of their bird cards to keep.

  • For each bird card kept, the player must discard one food.
  • The more birds kept, the less food the player has at the start of the game.

Before the game starts, the player must choose which of the two bonus cards to keep. You may only have one bonus card.

Gameplay

Rounds

The game is played over four rounds.

  • Round 1 has 8 turns per player
  • Round 2 has 7 turns per player
  • Round 3 has 6 turns per player
  • Round 4 has 5 turns per player

Goals

Each round has a goal for all players shown on the goal board which are different for each round.

Example goals:

  • Birds in Wetlands
  • Eggs on Birds with Bowl Nests
  • Birds with Brown Powers

    Difficulty

    • The competitive version of the goal board (green) has places for each player in order of rank (first gets the most points, second gets the second-most points, and so on).
    • The less competitive version (blue) has each player earning up to 5 points for each of the given goal items earned.

    Each round ends when all players have made the given number of actions. At that point, the round goal is calculated, the face-up birds are replaced with new ones, and the "first player" privilege rotates to the player on the left.

    Actions

    On any given turn, a player may do one of the following:

    Name Description Habitat
    Play a Bird Place a bird card in its proper habitat (row) on the board. Birds must be placed from left to right. You must pay a food cost for the bird and an egg cost for the column. N/A
    Gain Food Collect food from the birdfeeder. Forest
    Lay Eggs Place eggs on bird cards. Grassland
    Draw Bird Cards Pick a bird card from the three face-up cards in the tray or draw a bird card from the deck. Wetland
    Food

    Bird Powers

    Nearly all birds have some text on the bottom of their card with some kind of ability or advantage. A skull icon next to the power indicates that bird is a predator.

    "When Activated" (brown): When you take the Gain Food, Lay Eggs, or Draw Bird Cards actions, the action cube representing your turn is placed on the leftmost unoccupied space in the corresponding habitat. From there, the cube moves left onto each bird in the habitat. If the bird has a brown power, it activates. The "Play a Bird" action does not activate any of its benefits nor the benefits of other birds in that row.

    "Once Between Turns" (pink): These powers trigger during the opponent's turn, but only once before your next turn.

    "When Played" (white): These powers only activate once, when the bird is played.

    End of Game Scoring

    Scores are tallied from the following:

    • Each bird's point value.
    • Each card "tucked" under another bird card.
    • Each food token "cached" on a bird card.
    • Each egg on a bird card.
    • Points earned from End-of-Round goals.
    • Points from completing Bonus card objectives.

    The player who has the most points wins. In the case of a tie, the player with the most unused food tokens wins. If it's still a tie, tied players share the victory.
