==Setup==
==Components==

* The 6 x 6 city is laid out. Humans start in the game area: 72 people, at least one in every district of the area. The 8 humans outside the area stay in a pool and never go on the board, except through "More people".
* The bulldozer starts on a random district of the area. The shield starts beside the board and comes onto it the first time the police are used.
* Each player takes 10 '''bitcoins''' and factories: 15 with 2 players, 14 with 3, 13 with 4. Colours are fixed by turn order: red, blue, yellow, green.
* The starting player is chosen at random.

The game area depends on the number of players:

Goal

People is a dystopian economic strategy game for 2–4 players designed by Néstor Romeral Andrés (a tribute to Soylent Green). Build licensed food-processing factories on the borders between city districts. Each factory scores the number of humans in its two adjacent districts multiplied together. Unspent bitcoins score 1 point each. The player with the highest total score wins!

Components

Component Icon Description
Factories Food production plants in 4 player colours (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green) placed on district borders.
Humans Citizens populating city districts that feed adjacent factories (72 start on the board, 8 in the outside pool).
Bitcoins Currency used to bribe city authorities, or saved for +1 point each at game end.
Roadblocks 12 barriers that block human movement and factory placement along street edges.
Bulldozer Heavy vehicle used to scoop up citizens and redistribute them along a straight street.
Riot Police & Shield Police unit used to disperse citizens from a crowded district into surrounding districts.
Board — 6×6 city grid. The active play area adapts to the player count.

Setup

  • City Area:
    • 2 players: 5×5 area (25 districts).
    • 3 players: 5×6 area (30 districts).
    • 4 players: full 6×6 city (36 districts).
    • Inactive districts outside the play area are fenced off with roadblocks.
  • 72 citizens start distributed across the active area (at least 1 in every district). 8 citizens start in the outside pool.
  • Each player starts with 10 bitcoins and their supply of factories: 2 players: 15; 3 players: 14; 4 players: 13.
  • Turn order determines colours: 1st: Red , 2nd: Blue , 3rd: Yellow , 4th: Green .
  • The bulldozer starts on a random district. The riot shield starts off-board.

Your turn

Each turn consists of two steps:

  1. Build a factory (mandatory): Click an empty edge between two districts in the active city area. Your factory is built immediately.
  2. Bribe city authorities (optional): Spend 1 bitcoin to execute one bribe, or click Skip bribe. If you wish to reposition your factory, you can click red Undo before bribing.

Available Bribes (cost 1 bitcoin each)

  • Police: select any district with humans (except where the bulldozer sits). The riot shield moves there, dispersing 1 human into each adjacent district that is not blocked by a roadblock.
  • Bulldozer: scoop up 1 to 5 humans from its current district. Drive in a straight line in any cardinal direction, dropping at least 1 human in each district passed through until all scooped humans are distributed. The bulldozer cannot pass through roadblocks or leave the active city area.
  • Roadblock: place 1 roadblock from the supply onto any empty street edge in the active city area.
  • Outside (More People): bring 4 citizens from the outside pool into the city. Choose a 2×2 block of districts; each of the 4 districts receives 1 human.

End of the game and scoring

The game ends immediately when the active player cannot build a factory (either having 0 factories left in their reserve or no legal empty edges remaining).

Final score calculation:

  • Factory points: For each factory you built, multiply the number of humans in the district on one side by the number of humans in the district on the other side.
  • Bitcoin points: +1 point for each unspent bitcoin in your possession.

The player with the highest total score wins! Ties share victory (no tie-breaker).

Controls on BGA

  • Building a factory: click any highlighted border edge between two districts to place your factory immediately.
  • Bribing: click one of the 4 bribe buttons in the supply bar above the board (Police, Bulldozer, Roadblocks, Outside), then click the required board targets. For the bulldozer, click Humans: [N] in the status bar to adjust how many humans to scoop (1 to 5). Then click blue Confirm (or red Cancel).
  • Skipping & Undoing: click Skip bribe to end your turn without bribing, or click red Undo to take back your factory placement.
  • Tooltips: hover over bitcoins and factories in player panels to view counts, and over bribe buttons in the supply bar.
  • Preferences:
    • Colorblind support (Preference 100, default: Off): adds distinctive geometric shapes to factories and the bulldozer.
    • Sound effects (Preference 101, default: On).
