I'm a fan of Looney Pyramid Games in general and of Homeworlds in particular. Homeworlds is my top 1 game out of my top 10 all-time favorite games.

It landed on this position when in 2020 I realized that the branching factor of Homeworlds (the number of available move options) can exceed 1 MILLION! So, it dwarfs Go, which had always been the abstract strategy game with the highest branching factor (average 250), compared to Chess (31-35), Checkers (10), Othello (<10), Connect 4 (7).

I knew Homeworlds since 2010, but it took quite a while before I could find a player base to play with. I've now successfully taught Homeworlds to 10+ people, who all liked the game enough to want to play it again, and recently I learned that there is a "2nd generation" of students when one of my students reported that they had successfully taught the game to one of their friends.
