Generally space for your animals is at a premium. Try to make sure you have as much room as possible for the current round and future rounds as any animals which don't fit will score negatively for you. If you notice that you don't have enough space, taking a card which has zero points is better than negative score!

Look out for the bonuses or special requirements to maximise your score. Some animal pens have double score so also prioritise those.

Flexibility can be important so you can fit all your animals in. Well fed and early access cards also give you more flexibility.

Look our for what cards are available this round and try to plan what you can fit in. Also pay attention to what your opponent is taking as this could affect your decisions.

It is easier to fit in herbivorous animals but the carnivores are worth more.

You can't score negative points for a round so if there really isn't room, try to maximise points for future rounds.
