Tips stockpile

Information is Everything

  • Always combine your private insider information with the public Company and Forecast information.
  • A strong forecast can make a stockpile containing that company's shares extremely valuable.
  • Remember that other players also have private information. If someone bids unusually aggressively, consider what they might know.
  • Do not reveal too much information through your bidding patterns.

Bid for Value, Not Just Stocks

  • Look at the entire stockpile before bidding. It may contain shares, trading fees, or Action Cards.
  • A stockpile with several shares of a company you know will rise can be worth a large premium.
  • Do not overpay simply because a stock is currently expensive.
  • Keep enough cash for later auctions. Being broke can leave you unable to take advantage of good opportunities.
  • Trading fees can turn an apparently attractive stockpile into a bad deal, so always account for them.

Use Your Information Before the Market Moves

  • If you know a company is going up strongly, buying its shares before the Movement Phase can be extremely profitable.
  • If you know a company is going down significantly, consider selling it before the movement.
  • A +4 forecast is particularly powerful because it can potentially trigger a Stock Split.
  • Be especially careful with -3 forecasts when a company is already near the bottom.

Stock Splits

  • Pay close attention to companies approaching the Stock Split space.
  • A Stock Split effectively doubles your existing shares.
  • Split shares are particularly valuable for winning the Majority Shareholder bonus because they count double.
  • However, do not buy an overpriced stock solely because you expect a split. Calculate how much you are actually paying for the potential gain.
  • New shares acquired after a split do not automatically become Split Portfolio shares.

Majority Bonuses Matter

  • The $10,000 Majority Shareholder bonus can completely change the final result.
  • Sometimes buying one or two additional shares is worthwhile just to secure the majority.
  • Watch what opponents are collecting and try to estimate who is leading each company.
  • A tie gives each tied player $5,000, so sometimes preventing another player from having a clear majority is valuable.
  • Split Portfolio shares count double when determining majority.

Selling Strategy

  • Do not automatically sell every stock that goes up.
  • Before selling, consider whether the stock could rise again, trigger a split, or provide a dividend.
  • Conversely, do not hold a stock simply because you paid a lot for it. The purchase price is already gone; focus on its future value.
  • When you know a major negative movement is coming, selling before the movement can protect your money.
  • Cash is valuable because it gives you purchasing power in future auctions.

Bankruptcy

  • Be extremely careful with companies near the bottom of the market.
  • A stock that falls below 1 goes bankrupt and all shares of that company are lost, including shares in the Split Portfolio.
  • If bankruptcy is likely, selling before the Movement Phase can be much better than hoping for a recovery.

Action Cards

  • Action Cards can change a company's value by +2 or -2.
  • Use them to strengthen a stock you own, push a stock toward a split, or damage a company that an opponent heavily owns.
  • Consider the majority bonus when deciding where to use an Action Card.
  • A -2 movement can be particularly powerful against a company close to bankruptcy.

Manage Your Cash

  • Cash is not just your final score; it is also your bidding power.
  • Avoid spending almost all your money early unless the stockpile provides exceptional value.
  • Sometimes letting another player overpay is better than competing for the same stockpile.
  • In later rounds, cash becomes less important because there are fewer opportunities to spend it.

Read Your Opponents

  • Watch which companies opponents repeatedly target.
  • Large bids can reveal that a player may have useful insider information.
  • Track which players appear to be collecting the majority of a company.
  • If an opponent is close to a $10,000 majority bonus, consider whether denying them the necessary shares is worth the cost.

End Game

  • As the game approaches its final rounds, focus more on guaranteed value and majority bonuses.
  • There are fewer future auctions, so holding large amounts of cash becomes less useful.
  • Try to calculate your likely final wealth rather than simply maximizing the number of stocks you own.
  • Remember that final scoring includes cash, stock values, and majority bonuses.
