Collect Cards that work well together: For example, a Mackerel is a Common Blue Fish. There are Treasures that award points for Blue Fish (2pts per), Common Fish (1pt per), and Mackerels (1 pt per). Collect them all to make Mackerels worth 5 points!
Stay Flexible: Don't tell the dice what you want to do. Listen to what the dice want you to do. The easiest way to get burned is to sit on a Legendary Fish and wait for those 3 Harpoons.
Risk the Abyss at least once: A lot of the best strategy-defining cards are in the Abyss. It's difficult to win the game without at least one of them.
End your turn on a Current: If the last move of your turn is to move off a Current, wait until the beginning of your next turn instead. You never know when the dice will make you change your mind and go the other way.
