Game Overview

In Pandemain, players manage medieval bakeries, focusing on bread production and sales while maintaining religious standing to satisfy the Inquisition.

Core Concept: Resources & Quality

Four types of grain (as flour) determine bread value:

  • Rye (Brown): Basic bread, available from the start.
  • Oat (Green): Higher tier, requires a specific Master Baker.
  • Spelt (White): Expensive, grants high prestige.
  • Wheat (Yellow): Provides significant bonus prestige in early rounds.
  • Quality: High Quality follows the exact recipe; Low Quality allows replacing specific flours. Quality affects your Reputation track.

Gameplay

A day (round) consists of four distinct phases:

1. Daytime (Action Phase)

Players place workers to buy ingredients (Water, Salt, Yeast, Milk) , acquire flour at the Mill , or bake in the Feudal Lord's Oven. Selling bread in villages is also an action performed in this phase.

2. Dusk

Workers return to the reserve (except those in the Granary). All baked bread on the player board moves one space right on the staleness track.

3. Night-time

In reverse turn order, players may take one optional additional action with a single worker.

4. Dawn

The round is reset for the next day. Workers in the Granary return with flour tokens.

Game End & Scoring

Final scoring occurs after the 5th day:

  • Current position on the Prestige (Victory Points) track.
  • Bonuses or penalties from the Reputation tracks.
  • Points for sets of different Villager cards.
  • Penalties for any remaining Penance tokens.
