π Napoleon - Basic Rule Guide
Napoleon is a highly strategic trick-taking game for 5 players, originating from Japan. Players are divided into the Napoleon's Army (2 players) and the Allied Forces (3 players).
π Game Overview
- Deck: 52 standard cards + 1 Joker = 53 cards in total.
- Honor Cards: A, K, Q, J, 10 (20 cards in total). The goal is to collect these cards.
- Victory Conditions:
- Napoleon's Army: Collect at least the number of Honor Cards declared during the bidding.
- Allied Forces: Prevent Napoleon's Army from reaching their declared target.
π Game Flow
1. Bidding
Players take turns declaring how many Honor Cards they can collect if they become "Napoleon."
- Bid Range: 10 to 20 cards.
- Bid Content: Number of cards and the desired Trump suit (e.g., "13, Spades").
- Bidding continues until someone makes the highest bid or everyone else passes.
- All Pass Scenario: If everyone passes, the dealer (first bidder) is forced to become Napoleon with a bid of "10, Clubs".
2. Card Exchange
The winner of the bid (Napoleon) takes the 3 face-down cards from the center (the "Widow") and discards 3 cards from their hand. These 3 discarded cards are revealed to all players.
- Important: If any Honor Cards are included in the discarded 3 cards, they are awarded to the winner of the first trick.
3. Adjudant Nomination
Napoleon nominates an "Adjudant Card" to choose their secret partner.
- Example: "The Ace of Spades" or "The Queen of Hearts (Yoromeki)."
- The player holding that card becomes the secret partner, the "Adjudant."
- Napoleon must fight alone (Solo Napoleon) if they hold the nominated card themselves.
- If the nominated card is among the 3 cards in the Widow or among the cards Napoleon discarded, Napoleon also becomes a Solo Napoleon.
4. Trick-Taking
Starting from the player to the left of Napoleon, players play one card clockwise.
- Must Follow: You must play a card of the same suit as the lead card if you have one.
- If you are void in the lead suit, you may play any card (including Trump cards or other suits).
- Leading with Joker: If a player leads with the Joker, they specify a suit that others must follow for that trick.
- The strongest card wins the 5 cards in that trick and leads the next trick.
π₯ Card Strength (from Strongest)
- π± Mighty: β A. Always the strongest card in the game.
- π Joker: The second strongest card.
- π» Right Jack: The Jack of the Trump suit.
- π» Left Jack: The Jack of the same color as the Trump suit.
- If Trump is β (Spades), β£J is the Left Jack.
- If Trump is β£ (Clubs), β J is the Left Jack.
- If Trump is β₯ (Hearts), β¦J is the Left Jack.
- If Trump is β¦ (Diamonds), β₯J is the Left Jack.
- Trump Cards: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9...
- Lead Suit Cards: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9... of the suit matching the first card played in the trick.
- Other Cards
β οΈ Special Rules
π The Queen of Hearts (Yoromeki)
- Card: β₯Q.
- Effect: Activates only if the Mighty (β A) is played in the same trick.
- Result: The β₯Q defeats the Mighty and becomes the strongest card. In this scenario, the Mighty becomes the weakest card in the trick.
β£οΈ3 Joker Request
- Condition: If the β£3 is played as the lead card of a trick.
- Effect: The player holding the Joker must play it in this trick.
π¦ Same-Two
- Card: The "2" of the lead suit.
- Effect: Activates only after the first trick and only if all players followed the lead suit (no Joker/Mighty/Right Jack/Left Jack or other suits played). The "2" of the lead suit defeats all other cards in the trick.
π Scoring
After 10 tricks, victory points (VP) are distributed based on the outcome.

|---|---|---|---|
| Napoleon Army Wins (Normal) | +4 | +2 | 0 |
| Napoleon Army Wins (Solo) | +6 | - | 0 |
