Mia (Liar's Dice) - Quick Rules
Overview
- Players: 3 or more.
- Equipment: 2 dice, a dice cup, and a flat surface (e.g., a coaster).
- Objective: Avoid losing lives by successfully bluffing or rolling high values.
Gameplay
Play proceeds clockwise. The first player shakes the dice in the cup and keeps the result hidden.
- Roll & Announce: The player looks at the dice privately and announces a value. They may tell the truth or bluff.
- Pass the Cup: The cup is passed face down to the next player.
- The Next Player's Choice: The next player has two options:
- Believe: Accept the cup without looking. They must now roll and announce a higher value than the previous one.
- Challenge: Lift the cup to reveal the dice to everyone.
- If the announcement was a lie: The liar loses a life (or receives a penalty point).
- If the announcement was true: The challenger loses a life.
Ranking of Rolls (High to Low)
The higher die is always read as the tens digit and the lower die as the units (e.g., a 4 and 2 is "42", never "24").
- 21 (Mia): The highest possible roll. If someone challenges a "Mia" and loses, they lose double the usual lives/points.
- Doubles: 66, 55, 44, 33, 22, 11 (in descending order).
- High Numbers: 65, 64, ..., 32, 31 (the highest combination wins).
Special Rules
- When a player announces a 21 (Mia), the round ends immediately after the cup is either challenged or accepted.
- The player who lost the previous round starts the next one.
