Game Overview
In this team-based strategy game, two teams (each consisting of two families) fight for dominance over Sicily during the Great Mafia War of the 1980s. You must coordinate with your partner to recruit Soldati, expand your influence, and seize control of Mandamenti (districts) through tactical planning and calculated attacks. Success depends on perfect timing and synergy within your team.
Goal of the Game: The team that either controls 5 Mandamenti instantly or has the most victory points after the 4th round wins.
Game Flow
The game lasts for a maximum of 4 rounds, each divided into two main phases:
1. Planning Phase
Players take turns placing their family markers on the action board to prepare their orders.
- Placing Markers: Choose an action and place your marker on the field. If markers are already present, they are stacked; actions are later resolved from top to bottom.
- Actions:
- Recruit: Bring new Soldati from your supply into your headquarters or controlled areas.
- Move: Shift Soldati from one area to an adjacent one to establish presence or initiate attacks.
- Upgrade: Improve abilities on your family board (e.g., weapon strength or income).
- Income: Receive money (Lire) to pay for expensive actions and equipment.
- Secret Orders: Prepare special attack or defense plans that remain hidden until the Execution Phase.
2. Execution Phase
The placed markers are resolved stack by stack, starting from the top.
- Execute Order: The player whose marker is on top performs the action.
- Combat: Conflict occurs whenever Soldati from opposing families meet in the same area.
- Resolution: Combat strength (Soldati + bonuses) is combined with secretly played combat plans.
- Consequence: The losing side must remove Soldati from the board; ties are often broken by the resources invested.
Scoring
At the end of the 4th round, a final scoring takes place if no team has achieved an automatic victory (5 Mandamenti):
- Controlled Areas: Each occupied territory grants points.
- Mandamenti: A team receives bonus points for each Mandamento (a group of 3 areas) where they hold the majority.
- Board Progress: Fully upgraded family abilities provide additional victory points.
Variants and Options
- 2-Player Mode: Each player controls a full team of two families.
- 3-Player Mode: A neutral family acts as a buffer or is integrated into the conflict via specific rules.
- Optional Rule Changes: Adjustments to mobility or combat plans can be used to alter the game's dynamics.
