Entropy (Board&Dice, 2026) is a rondel game for 1–4 players. You are apprentice scientists running a universe simulation: build Solar Systems of Stars, Planets and Asteroids, then bring Life to your Planets. The most VP wins; ties are shared.
The official rulebooks are linked on the game page. This page is a summary.
Resources
- Energy, Mass and Entropy are your pool. Resources are unlimited.
- Lifeforms (Bacteria, Plant, Animal) live on a specific Planet, at most 5 of each type per Planet.
- When paying a cost, 2 Entropy may stand in for 1 Energy or 1 Mass, as often as you like.
- Golden rule: every reward is optional. You may always decline any part of a reward.
Your turn
Each turn has three steps: Movement → Action → Mission.
1. Movement
- Move your Scientist 1, 2 or 3 sectors clockwise (never 0). In the sector you reach, land on either the inner Action space (printed on the board) or the outer one (an Action tile).
- Inner spaces cost a Creation token. Place a matching token (Star, Planet or Life) or your unlocked Wild token in front of the space. No token, no landing. Outer spaces are free.
- Passing your own tokens: every token of yours you pass (including the one in front of the space you land on) comes back to your Console. For each one you may activate one of your Stars or gain 1 Entropy.
- The Wild token starts locked on the board; passing it unlocks it. It works as any Creation token but never triggers Focus cards.
2. Traffic Bonus, then Action
- First, any of your Biomes that name this action pay out.
- The Traffic Bonus printed on the space depends on the distance moved: 1 = big bonus, 2 = small bonus, 3 = nothing.
- Landing where another Scientist already stands adds 1 to the distance. Moving 3 onto an occupied space also costs 1 Entropy. Some outer spaces carry a merge symbol and count Scientists on the inner space next to them too.
- Then resolve the action. You may take only the bonus and skip the action, except on Create Life.
3. Mission step
- Mission: if you meet one of your two Mission cards, you may fulfil it for its reward. Fulfilling one discards both, so you fulfil at most one per game.
- Main Objectives: advance your marker on each Objective track whose condition you met this turn.
- Lifeform Objectives: claim a small tile (one per Lifeform type per player, ever) and/or the big tile if you have enough Lifeforms of that type.
- Your Creation tokens on the Console stand up again for next turn.
The actions
- Evolve a Star (inner)
- Pay the Energy shown to swap one of your Stars for the next tier along the printed arrows, or pay 1 Energy for a tier I Star on an empty or new Solar System. Evolving never triggers the Star.
- Aggregate Planet (inner)
- Pay the Mass cost, resolve the Planet's effect, then place it in one of your Solar Systems.
- Create Life (inner)
- Play a Life card onto a Planet. The Planet, its Asteroids and its Solar System's Star together must show the card's Life Conditions (Heat, Carbon, Water, Radiation) and any Lifeforms it needs (a red number means those Lifeforms are removed). You may discard one other Life card to count one of its icons toward one requirement. Add the card's Lifeforms and resolve its effect. Max 3 Life cards per Planet.
- Activate Stars
- Activate any of your Stars once each, paying its Entropy cost. The Generator track gives a discount to some Stars on this action only.
- Set Biome
- Attach a Biome tile to a Planet (one per Planet). It pays out whenever you land on the action it names (Scarce Biomes cost 1 Entropy each time). Once the Planet holds the Lifeforms shown, flip it to its better fulfilled side.
- Upgrade Console
- Pay 3 Energy to raise one Focus card a tier and take back its Creation token (no Star or Entropy for it). A Focus card fires each time its token is used for an action.
- Take Life Cards
- Take 2 Life cards from the offer.
- Catch an Asteroid
- Put an Asteroid on one of your Planets (max 2), paying the cost printed on that space: 1 Lifeform from the Planet or 2 Mass (Water and Radiation Asteroids cost 1 Mass more). The Planet's effect fires again.
- Primordial Soup
- Advance on the Generator track and gain 1 Mass and 1 Energy. Its Traffic Bonus gives Lifeform advancements (a new Bacteria, Bacteria → Plant, or Plant → Animal).
The Generator track sets your Activate Stars discount and how many Stars it covers. Its last three spaces pay 3 VP on arrival, and advancing past the end pays 3 VP.
End of the game
The end is triggered when 2 Objectives are complete: a marker reaching the last space of a Main Objective track (one player only per last space) and/or a big Lifeform Objective tile claimed. Finish the round, play one more full round, then score:
- VP gained during the game
- Lifeform Objective tiles
- Each Main Objective: your track position × what that Objective counts
- 1 VP per 4 leftover Life cards, Energy, Mass and Entropy, counted together
Solo mode
You play against the Ghost, which makes no decisions. After your turn it moves 3 if you moved 1, 2 if you moved 2, 1 if you moved 3. When it passes the Progress deck, a card advances it on the Objectives and Lifeform tiles and removes cards and tiles from the offers. Its space counts as occupied for your Traffic Bonus.
Instead of Missions you have three Challenges (green 5 VP, yellow 10 VP, red 15 VP). Complete them in your Mission step. You need at least 2 or you lose. The Ghost scores its Lifeform tiles plus its Objective track positions × 4 (×3 or ×5 by difficulty). Beat it to win; a tie loses. The Advanced Challenges option adds a constraint to each Challenge that applies until you complete it.

Playing on BGA
- Click a space on the ring to move there; legal landings are outlined. Every choice after that (which Planet, which card, decline a reward) is a click on the table or a button in the action bar.
- Hover a Life card in your hand to light up the Planets that can take it; hover a Planet to do the reverse.
- Restart turn undoes your whole turn until something hidden is revealed (a tile or card turned up from a stack).
- The game preference Table layout switches between the printed-board layout and a panel layout.
