Downtown is a bag-building, tile-laying game.
Round Structure
- Draw Phase
- Placement Phase
- Income Phase
- Cleanup Phase
- Bidding Phase
Draw Phase
Draw 6 tiles from your bag. You may draw 7 if you have achieved the bonus on the Subway Track. You will draw all of your tiles on the final round.
You then choose 4 out of the tiles you drew for the Placement Phase.
Placement Phase
Players take turns placing one tile down onto the game board based on the active zone indicated by the visit card.
You will place 3 tiles in a 3-4 player game and 4 tiles in a 2 player game.
Income Phase
Identify the largest cluster of tiles that belong to you that has at least one tile in the active zone. Use that number and take that number of Victory Points or that number of money. So if your largest cluster of tiles is 5 tiles, you may take 5 VPs or $5. You cannot split the amount.
Cleanup Phase
This is automated by BGA. All passengers that have moved are stood back up and the zone cards on the top left of the board will change. Check this so you know how to plan for the coming rounds.
Bidding Phase
Each player in turn order will bid once for turn order in money. All bids must be unique and you may choose to pass and bid $0. Whoever bids the most money is the first in the turn order and so on...
After the turn order bid, the players in turn order will draft from the face up Advanced Tiles on the board (located on the right hand side of the game board on BGA).
After all the Advanced Tiles have been drafted, players will get a chance to add additional regular tiles to their bag.
End Game
The game ends after 6 rounds for 2 players and 7 rounds for 3-4 players.
