Game Overview

In Andromeda's Edge, you lead a desperate faction seeking to build a new civilization on the edge of the galaxy. Thematically, you colonize planets, gather rare resources, and upgrade your space station. Mechanically, the game merges worker placement (using ships) with engine building (on your player mat). Your ships act both as workers to trigger region actions and as combat units to defend your interests.

Goal of the Game

The goal is to accumulate the most Victory Points (VP) by building planetary developments, advancing on progress tracks, and winning battles against rivals and raiders.

Gameplay

On your turn, you must choose one of two primary actions:

1. Launching a Ship

  • Placement: Move a ready ship from your station to a region on the main board.
  • Activation: Perform the region's action (e.g., gather resources, acquire moons, buy modules, or build planetary developments).
  • Combat: If an opponent's ship or a raider is present in the region, a battle is triggered at the end of your turn.

2. Return to Station (Scuttle)

  • Recall: Return all your ships from the board to your space station's docking bays.
  • Activation: Trigger your station's modules row by row. Each ship docked in a row allows you to activate the module effects in that row (your built-in "engine").
  • Maintenance: Use this phase to build new ships or purchase upgrades if resources permit.

The 5 Progress Tracks

Advancing on these tracks is the primary way to gain VPs and unlock powerful abilities:

Track Focus / Benefit
Science (Blue) Increases energy capacity and provides tactics cards.
Industry (Grey) Unlocks ship upgrades and construction bonuses.
Commerce (Yellow) Generates credits and improves resource exchange rates.
Civilization (Green) Allows building of developments and provides massive VPs.
Supremacy (Red) Boosts combat strength; advanced by winning battles.

Combat & Game End

  • Battles: Resolved using dice. Your dice pool depends on ship types and played tactics cards. The winner advances on the Supremacy track, while losers are sent to the Repair Barge.
  • Game End: The game end is triggered when a player reaches a specific VP threshold (or after a certain number of developments/events). Final scoring then determines the winner.
