Goal of the game

Create your playing area by arranging the cards in front of you.

Respect the value conditions to hold your cards. Score points with your color families.

Be careful: cards that don't respect the conditions will cost you points!

Materials

  1. Game rules
  2. 108 cards in 4 colors: yellow / red / blue and green with 3 cards 1, 6 cards 2, 8 cards 3, 10 cards 4 including 3 with butterflies
  3. 4 purple "start" cards for the "Summer" variant
  4. A score book
  5. 3 template cards to form piles of cards according to the number of players:
    1. 1 player: approx. 40 cards per pile
    2. 2 players: approx. 26 cards per pile
    3. 3 players: approx. 30 cards per pile
    4. 4 players: all cards

Set up

Each player takes a card at random and places it face-up in his or her playing area. Make up three piles by making 3 identical (or almost identical) piles. For 2 or 3 players, use the appropriate templates. With 4 players, there are no templates, and all the cards in the deck are used. Turn over the top card of two of the three decks. This leaves a face-down deck. Designate the player to start the game.

Game turn

FLOWERS is played clockwise in turn. On his or her turn, the player will draw a card and place it in his or her play area.

1. Draw

The player whose turn it is draws the card of his or her choice from the top of one of the three piles. He or she may draw either one of the two face-up cards, or the face-down card. If it's a face-up card, the next player turns over a new card from this pile, so that there are always two face-up cards and one face-down card. Note that the face-down pile remains face-down until the end of the game.

2. Play

The player places the card in his or her playing area, either next to a card already placed (touching at least 1 side), or on top of a card already placed.

End of game

When a player draws the last card from one of the 3 piles, he or she ends his or her turn by laying down this card. The game ends immediately, and we move on to the scoring phase.

Scoring

To score points at the end of the game, you need to have succeeded in creating zones of the same color with at least 5 adjacent cards. But you'll also need to have created valid groups of cards, in accordance with the following condition for success:

A "4" must be part of a group of exactly four "4s". A "3" must be part of a group of exactly three "3s". A "2" must be part of a group of exactly two "2s". A "1" must not be adjacent to another "1", thus forming a group of one "1". Cards not forming part of a valid group will be discarded at the end of the game and will lose you points.

Following the order of the score book: 1. remove discarded cards, those which do not meet the success conditions: -1 point per card. 2. Points are counted for each color with at least five adjacent cards: 1 point per card. 3. Add 1 point for each butterfly adjacent to your color. Victory goes to the player with the most points. In the event of a tie, the player with the fewest discarded cards wins. If the tie persists, share the victory.

1) Discarded cards

Discarded cards are those which do not belong to a valid group. Remove them from your playing area. Each discarded card costs you one point.

2) Victory points

For each family of at least 5 adjacent cards, count 1 point per visible card.

3) Butterflies

1 point for each butterfly adjacent to a card of your color. Example: 1 point if the yellow 4 with a green butterfly is adjacent to any green card. This is the case here. IMPORTANT: Written values are not points. It's always 1 point per card. Covered cards do not count as points, but they do count as -1 per card when discarded with the top card.
