In Vintage Revival, you run a workshop, in which you salvage an repair vintage items and arrange them in a collection.

The three goal cards at the right show you how to score points. You also score for repairing items and placing inventory tiles.

The game is played over 5 rounds. Each round comprises 3 phases:

  1. Draw vintage items: Each player gets a hand of 4 tiles, one each of sizes 2x2, 2x4, 3x2, and 3x3.
  2. In four draft turns, players keep and place 1 tile from hand and pass the rest: clockwise in odd rounds, counter-clockwise in even rounds.
  3. After placing 4 tiles in a round, each player may place 1 inventory tile (from 5 at the start of the game) or 2 spare parts of their choice.

Anatomy of vintage items:

Repair cost:

There are 1 or 2 symbols at the top left (cog, screw, or wire) showing what the item needs to count for scoring.

Spare parts:

The up to 4 dark symbols at the bottom show what you get from the item if you salvage it (see next section).

Sparkles:

Tiles with sparkles are considered rare and count for the goal card at the bottom.

Decade:

50s to 90s, also reflected by the wallpaper color in the background. Relevant for the goal card in the middle.

Placing tiles:

When you select a tile in the draft, you must make a choice:

  • Place it face down as a parts donor to get spare parts (shown at the bottom of the tile).

OR

  • Place it face up to potentially score points (once it is fully repaired).

When placing a face-down tile ADJACENT to a face-up one or vice versa, if the face-up tile needs spare parts from the face-down tile, they are automatically transferred.

If there is a choice, you must select it yourself by clicking the spare part and the target icon.

An item is considered fully repaired if all of its cost icons are covered by spare part tokens.

Empty parts donors (face-down tiles) are removed automatically, if possible. Your collection may never split into multiple separated parts.

You may place a new tile over a parts donor (thus, removing the parts donor and any remaining spare parts on it) if it keeps your collection in one chunk.

Inventory tiles:

At the end of each round, you can either place an inventory tile or 2 spare parts anywhere in your collection.

There are 5 inventory tiles to choose from, each scoring for items that touch it depending on a condition:

  • Bookcase: tiles of the same color (the most common color touching it will be selected automatically)
  • Chandelier: different item types (like phone, lamp, or sewing machine - regardless of decade); note that computer and typewriter are considered the same type
  • Painting: different colors
  • Plant: different tile sizes (2x2, 2x4, 3x2, and 3x3)
  • Sofa: tiles of the same tile size (the most common tile size will be selected automatically)

If you don't place an inventory tile, you will have a greater selection later but you can only ever place 1 per round.

Scoring:

  • Goals - according to the conditions on the cards; the table tells you how many points you get
  • Inventory tiles - 1, 3, 6, or 10 points for 1, 2, 3, or 4 eligible tiles touching it, respectively
  • Repaired items - 1 point for every fully repaired item Parts donors and items that have not been fully repaired do not count for scoring at all - as if they were not there.

In your player info box, you will see a live score during the game with "(max #)" indicating how many points you'd get if all current tiles were repaired.
