Choosing Champions

Korvash is overpowered and should be banned in competitive mode if chosen by the opponent.

A mix of champions is recommended: at least 1 (but ideally 2 or 3) champions who have abilities to move the enemy to stop them from achieving challenges that involve location placement (e.g., Push, Pull, or Force).

Choose one champion that is capable of dealing high damage (Korvash, Tentaclot, Tzu Xiao) to ensure you can kill champions when necessary.

Good defense is key. At least one champion should have a defense card that boosts defense and doesn't just retaliate (like Dugrun, Nevamor, or Lil'Y). Kilgore has such a card, but Tzu Xiao does not. But playing purely defensive is a sure way to lose.

Each champion has a different win condition. Know which one applies to which.

General

Winning is generally easier by completing the challenges instead of killing enemy champions. That doesn't mean defeating champions should be neglected. It should be the secondary way that you score points. Defeating champions makes it easier to hold territory to complete the challenges. Plus, when you defeat an enemy, your champion becomes more powerful.

Timing on winning challenges is also key. You don't want to rush. Try to plan 2-3 moves ahead.

A KO'd champion can be devastating. You have to spend movement and 33% of your actions to get them back in the game.

Most champions have no armor. Attack from a distance if you can. If you can't, get in, cause damage, and get out. You can cause around 5 damage to an enemy in one round, meaning you can take them out in two rounds.

The Plan ability doesn't seem like much use, but it can create devastating combos.

Check your opponent's discard pile to know what reactions they may or may not have left.
