Overview
Players take turns to draw and play cards to complete sets of Season cards, for the most points at the end of the game.
The game ends in one of two ways: Either a player completes all 4 Seasons, or when one draw pile is emptied. In the latter case, the active player finishes their turn and takes a bonus wildcard if there are any left. The remaining players take one last turn, then scoring occurs.
Gameplay
On your turn, you must take 2 actions from the 4 actions below. You are allowed to perform the same action for both actions.
The available actions are:
- Take 2 face-down Season cards from the face-down draw piles. You are allowed to draw from either or both draw piles.
- Take 1 face-up Season card from either one of the 3 face-up columns or from the face-up discard pile.
- Take 1 wild card by discarding 2 cards from your hand which are present in your board.
- Play cards to your board, paying 1 card for each card played from your hand to the face-up discard pile.
Actions are boosted if you have the corresponding wooden animal token.
Take 2 face-down Season cards
Take 2 cards from either draw pile to your hand. You can take from the same pile or one from each pile.
If you own the Squirrel (brown token), you can take 3 cards instead of 2.
Note: The back of Season cards does not necessarily match with the Season on the front of the card. When you take a face-down card, there is a 4 out of 5 chance that the card's Season will match its back. In the remaining 1/5, the card will be a Spring. There are no Spring cards with a matching back.
Take 1 face-up Season card
Take 1 face-up card, either from the 3 columns or the discard pile.
If you took the last card from any column, rebuild it up to 3 cards using the face-down draw piles.
If you own the Rabbit (purple token), you can take 2 face-up cards instead of 1.
Take 1 wild card
Discard 2 cards from your hand that you have already played to your board.
Take a wild card, if available, from the supply.
You then place that wild card in any Season, in place of a missing value.
You cannot have two wildcards in the same Season.
In later "Place cards" actions, you can replace a wild card with the corresponding missing value. When that happens, you must replace that wild card to fill for another missing value.
Play cards
Play cards from your hand to one of the 4 corners of your board.
The right corners are scored in ascending order, and vice versa.
You cannot have 2 corners with the same season.
A Season cannot hold two cards with the same value.
For each card you placed, you need to pay a corresponding cost:
- 1 card for each card placed on an empty corner
- 1 card if the card is the highest value in an ascending corner
- 1 card if the card is the lowest value in a descending corner
- 2 cards otherwise
Animal Tokens
The first player to have 3+ cards in any Season takes the corresponding animal token from the supply.
Any player who has equal or higher number of Season cards than the current owner of the animal token takes it from them.
They then receive a feather token from the supply (if available).
Feather Tokens
All players start the game with 1 Feather token.
Feather tokens can be gained when a player loses their animal token.
On a turn, a player can discard a Feather token to use the power of one animal token.
This power will be active for the next action on that turn.
Animal effects
Frog (green token) - Your discard action has a discount of 1, per action.
Squirrel (brown token) - When taking face-down Season cards, take 3 instead of 2 face-down cards.
Rabbit (purple token) - When taking face-up Season cards, take 2 instead of 1 face-down card.
Otter (orange token) - Your hand limit is increased to 8.
End of turn
At the end of your second action, you must discard down to 5 cards.
If you own the Otter (orange token), you can keep up to 8 cards at the end of your turn.
End game and Scoring
The game ends in one of two ways: Either a player completes all 4 Seasons, or when one draw pile is emptied. In the latter case, the active player finishes their turn and takes a bonus wildcard if there are any left. The remaining players take one last turn, then scoring occurs.
Scoring per player
- 1 point per card in the longest uninterrupted sequence, per Season
- 2 points per animal token
- -2 points per empty corner
The player with the most points is the winner.
In the case of a tie, the player with the most cards in hand is the winner. If players are still tied, whoever has played the most wild cards is the winner.
