Try to avoid making a single group until your stones outnumber your opponent. Try to make as many or all the captures you can yourself and prevent or minimize your opponent attempts to capture your stones. Keeping your opponents stone at the edges makes them easier to capture. Keep a separate group until your numbers of colored stones dominate, then join the separate groups.
