Objective

Earn the most victory points while exploring the country (placing tents) and finding gems.

Setup

  • Two six-sided dice per player are used.
  • Each player starts with three pounds of coins, and eleven tents in their tent supply.
  • The Steamboat starts on the first water space on the left side of the Gameboard.
  • All stones (rocks and gems) are placed in the bag.

Game Play

  • Play proceeds one player at a time in rounds.
  • At the start of each round, all dice are rolled and placed into a common supply.
  • On their turn, a player must select one die to start their turn.
    • If a player has previously selected a die this round, the next die selected this round must be a higher value.
    • If a player cannot select one of the remaining dice, their turn is skipped.
  • After taking a die, the player's turn begins and they execute one of the four Actions (see below).
  • At any time during their turn, a player may also: donate to the Queen up to their coins in hand, sell gems in their hand at the values listed on the Gameboard, or play an Action Card.
    • The No Cost Tent and Ignore Die Value Tent cards require an unused selected die as per the Place a Tent action.
    • The No Cost Tent and Ignore Die Value Tent cards may be played at the same time.
    • Sold gems are set aside.
  • A round ends when all dice have been selected, or no players have a valid die they can select.
  • At the end of the round, the round is scored (see below), and then the Steamboat is moved one water space to the right.
  • The game ends when the round completes with the Steamboat in the rightmost water space.
    • All rounds are scored, including the final round.
  • When the game ends, final scoring occurs (see below).

Actions

  • Draw an Action Card: the player draws one Action Card from the deck and places it in their hand. If a Mine Collapse card is drawn, all gems in all players' hands are returned to the bag and the player draws another Action Card.
  • Take Coins: the player receives coins in the number of pounds equal to their chosen die value.
  • Dig in the Mine: the player pulls random stones out of the bag equal to their chosen die value. If a white rock is drawn, all stones pulled during the player's turn, and any set aside stones, are returned to the bag. When the last stone is pulled, any pulled gems are placed in the player's hand, and any black rocks pulled are set aside.
  • Place a Tent:
    • A tent is placed in the column above the Steamboat, in the row indicated on the selected die, if the player has enough coins and has a tent remaining in their tent supply.
    • The player must pay the expedition cost indicated in the coin symbol, located just above the water space, for that column.
    • The player must also pay one pound for any other player's tent in that space to that other player.

End of Round Scoring

The player receives the victory point value indicated on the left side of the row for each tent in the column above the Steamboat.

Final Scoring

  • For each of the six rows, the player with the most tents in that row receives the victory point value indicated on the right of the row.
    • Rows with no tents in them are not scored.
    • If players tie for the most number of tents in the row, the victory points for that row are divided equally, rounded down.
  • Each player receives one victory point for each gem in their hand.
  • Each player scores any victory point Action Cards in their hand.
  • Once all victory points are awarded, each player's donations to the Queen are revealed.
    • The player with the lowest donation is disqualified from the game (score is set to zero).
    • If players tie for lowest donation, all of those players are disqualified.

Tie-breakers

  • In case of a victory point tie, the player with the largest donation is the winner.
  • In case of a victory point and donation tie, the player with the most placed tents is the winner.

Two-Player Rules

  • When a player's tent supply runs out, they may move an existing tent on the board when placing a tent, including a free tent.
  • At the end of the game, four dice are rolled, and the sum of those dice is the minimum donation amount a player must have donated to avoid being disqualified.
