Game Overview
In Bohemians, you take on the role of an artist in 19th-century Paris. You strive to gather inspiration and create masterpieces while struggling against all different hardships.
Objective: Each round gather as much inspiration as possible to buy a specific amount of achievement cards quicker than your opponents.
Game Flow
The game is played over several rounds, each consisting of three phases:
1. Wake up phase
- Draw cards: Each player draws cards from their deck (standard: 5 cards).
- Plan your routine: Arrange your cards in a row. Matching symbols give you inspiration and some cards can give special effects.
2. Day phase
Players execute their actions in turn:
- Narrate your day: Based on the cards you play, you can tell a story about what happened in your day. This has no effect on gameplay, it's just for the theme.
- Count your inspiration: Gain inspiration from:
- – Matching symbols,
- – Muses,
- – Other special cards.
- Spend inspiration: Use inspiration to purchase:
- – Habit cards from the display,
- – Muse cards from the display,
- – Achievement card (once per round),
- – Move unspent inspiration points into Atelier for other effects.
- Dues of the day: Gain Hardship card if you haven't played your Job tile.
3. Sleep phase
- Clean up the board: Put all cards you played into discard pile and the Job tile aside.
- Pass the first player token
- Refresh the market: New first player may remove one Market card and replace it with a new one.
Key Concepts
- Habits, Muses & Hardhip: Habit cards give you inspiration, Muse cards enhance your actions, while Hardship cards provide negative effects that you must manage or remove.
- Atelier: Points accumulated in Atelier can be used to:
- – Clear market (cost: 3) – Remove 4 cards in one of the two rows of the Market and replenish them with new ones.
- – Ignore 1 Hardship (cost: 4) – Hardship has no effect this round, but will land in the discard pile by the end of the round.
- – Draw 2 cards (cost: 5) – draw additional cards to your hand. Keep in mind it can result in drawing more Hardship cards.
- – Reject 1 card (cost: 6) – remove 1 card you played in this round (Habit, Muse, Hardships) completely out of the game.
- Achievements: Those are not only requirements for winning the game, but also each achievement card grants each round 1 point discount in Atelier.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player gains their fifth Achievement card (or fourth in a four-player game)
- Once this happens, players complete the current round, and the player with the most Achievement cards is declared the winner.
- If two or more players are tied with Achievement cards, the player who has more points in the Atelier wins the game. If there is still a tie, players share the victory!
