Try to get a lot of dogs.  Not many show up in the grid (rows and columns), but grab them as they appear.  This will also tend to deny them to your opponent.  The other way to get the dogs is by accumulating the “adoption” cards.  Grabbing the adoption cards will also deny them to your opponent in the same way.  Be sure to grab the right food that your dogs need, learn the color for the different food cubes to assist your management of food.
