Quick Help

😡 Account issue? Contact Board Game Arena support regarding ELO, karma, penalties, reputation, etc.

🧊 Slow 3D performance? Not a bug. Taluva uses an older, inefficient 3D technology which does not work well on mobile devices. It is strongly recommend to play on a desktop.

🪲 Other game issue? View and report bugs in Taluva.

Overview

  • Players take turns to place volcano tiles and settlements on an island emerging in the South Pacific.
  • The first player to build all their buildings of two types wins.

Tile: 3 hexagonal spaces; one volcano and two other terrain types (from most common to least: jungle, clearing, sand, rock, lake).

Settlement: a group of buildings of the same colour on adjacent spaces.

Buildings: temples Temple, towers Tower, and huts Hut

Setup

  • Each player receives Temple3, Tower2, and Hut20.
  • 12 tiles per player are shuffled face-down into a draw pile.

Game play

Place A Tile

  • A tile is randomly selected.
  • Select the space and orientation of the volcano.

Expand the landscape

Place the tile touching at least one edge of an existing 1st-level tile.

Volcanic eruption

  • Place the volcano space on top of an existing volcano.
  • Any Hut covered are destroyed and remain out of play.

Restrictions:

  • Must have the volcano in a different direction.
  • Must have spaces under both its terrain spaces.
  • Cannot destroy Temple, Tower or an entire settlement.

Place Buildings

Place buildings on empty terrain space(s) of any one terrain type (not volcanoes):

Note: You are allowed to build in such a way that two of your settlements join together, such that there are more than Temple or Tower in the same settlement.

Beware! If you cannot build, you will be eliminated from the game.

Build a Hut

  • Place Hut1 on a 1st-level space not adjacent to any of your existing settlements.

Build a Temple

  • Place Temple1 adjacent to one of your existing settlements that occupies at least 3 spaces.
  • Existing settlement must not already have a Temple.
Example
Red player builds Hut1 on both lake spaces

and Temple on the sand space next turn.

Build a Tower

  • Place Tower1 adjacent to one of your existing settlements and on a 3rd-level (or higher) space.
  • Existing settlement must not already have a Tower.

Expand a settlement

  • Place Hut adjacent to one of your existing settlements on all spaces of that terrain type.
  • 1st-level ⇨ Hut1, 2nd-level ⇨ Hut2, 3rd-level ⇨ Hut3.
  • Cannot build more Hut than available.
Example
Red player may build either:
  • Hut1 on each lake space or
  • Hut1 on the sand space.

Game end

  • The first player to build all buildings of two types wins immidiately.

  3. Most Hut

Tiebreak score = 1000 points / Temple + 100 points / Tower + 1 point / Hut
