Think in Rotations, Not Turns

Fromage is fundamentally a timing game.

  • Always ask: “What will be available after the next rotation?”
  • Plan two rotations ahead:
    • Rotation A: set something up (place workers, age cheese)
    • Rotation B: cash it in (score, upgrade, combo)
  • Don’t just react to the current quadrant—anticipate what your workers will do when the wheel moves.

Common mistake: Overvaluing immediate actions that leave you poorly positioned next rotation.


Specialize Early, Pivot Late

Early game rewards commitment.

  • Pick 1–2 cheese types or production paths to focus on early.
  • Upgrade production efficiency quickly (more output per action).
  • Mid-to-late game, pivot into:
    • High-value scoring opportunities
    • Endgame bonuses
    • Flexible cheeses that convert well

Rule of thumb:

Early = engine

Late = points


Don’t Ignore Aging Efficiency

Aging cheese is powerful—but only if timed correctly.

  • Aging too early can lock up workers when you need flexibility.
  • Aging too late leaves points on the table.
  • Optimal play:
    • Age cheese only when you already know how it will score
    • Avoid “speculative aging”

If a cheese doesn’t clearly score ≥2× its opportunity cost, rethink it.


Worker Placement: Denial Is Real

Even though Fromage feels cozy, it has sharp interaction.

  • Watch which quadrants opponents are clearly setting up for.
  • A single blocking placement can force them to waste a rotation.
  • This is especially strong:
    • Just before a scoring-heavy rotation
    • On high-efficiency conversion spots

You don’t need to block often—one well-timed block per game is huge.


Upgrade Actions Are Underrated

Many players delay upgrades too long.

  • Upgrades that:
    • Reduce costs
    • Improve yields
    • Unlock flexibility tend to pay for themselves within 1–2 rotations.
  • If an upgrade improves every future use of an action, it’s usually worth it early.

Ask: “How many times will I use this action?”

If the answer is “a lot,” upgrade early.


Balance Immediate vs. Endgame Scoring

Fromage rewards both—but imbalance hurts.

  • Pure engine builders often run out of time.
  • Pure scorers often lack efficiency.
  • Aim for:
    • ~60% of actions improving future value
    • ~40% directly scoring (shift this late game)

Watch the game clock—don’t let your engine peak after the game ends.


Watch Other Players’ Cheese Stocks

Information is mostly open—use it.

  • Track:
    • Who is about to score big
    • Who needs a specific rotation
    • Who is vulnerable to blocking
  • If someone has:
    • A lot of aged cheese
    • Workers queued in scoring quadrants → they are about to explode.

Adjust your placement accordingly.


Endgame: Convert Everything

Final rotations are about efficiency, not elegance.

  • Don’t leave:
    • Unaged cheese
    • Idle workers
    • Unused conversions
  • Even low-efficiency scoring is better than leftover resources.
  • Be ruthless: points now > perfect engine later.
