You can play the cards in any order you choose, but the number formed by the digits must be higher than the previous number. For example, if the number is 275, you could play an 8 to make 278, 285, or 875.

Beasts:
=== Beasts ===
When a "Beast" card is played, it is placed above the corresponding digit column (e.g., a club Beast above the tens column).
* When a "Beast" card is played, it is placed above the 1s place.
The Beast blocks that suit from being played in the column directly beneath it.
* The Beast blocks that type (suit + variety) from being played in the column directly beneath it.
If you play a card of the same suit that the Beast represents, you can "startle" the Beast by moving it one column to the left.
* If the space beneath the Beast has a card of the same type as the Beast, the Beast is "startled" and moves to the next column to the left that does not contain a card of the same type as the Beast.
If the Beast is startled into a column that already has a Beast, it is startled again, and so on.
*
If a Beast is startled all the way to the left and another card of its suit is played, it is removed from play.
* If all cards are the same type as the Beast, it has been "defeated/captured" and is removed from play.

Tokens: You can use one of your three discard tokens at any time during your turn to discard a non-Beast card from your hand.

How to play

Setup

  • Lay out the three spaces for the hundreds, tens, and ones digits on the table.
  • Shuffle the "Beast" cards into the main deck, with the number of beasts determining the difficulty.
  • Deal each player five cards.

Gameplay

  • On your turn, choose one suit and play all the cards of that suit from your hand to the table.
  • You can play the cards in any order you choose, but the number formed by the digits must be higher than the previous number.
    • For example, if the number is 275, you could play an 8 to make 278, 285, or 875.
  • Cards have a suit (clubs, spades, hearts, diamonds) and a variety ("broken" or "whole"). Broken cards have a golden shape around their suit symbol and whole cards don't. Both suit and variety together form a card's type.
  • Communication is limited. You can say things like "I can help," but you cannot show your cards or reveal their suit numbers or varieties.

Beasts

  • When a "Beast" card is played, it is placed above the 1s place.
  • The Beast blocks that type (suit + variety) from being played in the column directly beneath it.
  • If the space beneath the Beast has a card of the same type as the Beast, the Beast is "startled" and moves to the next column to the left that does not contain a card of the same type as the Beast.
  • If all cards are the same type as the Beast, it has been "defeated/captured" and is removed from play.

Tokens

  • You can use one of your three discard tokens at any time during your turn to discard a non-Beast card from your hand.

Winning and Losing
