My Shelfie is a race. Being the first to complete common goals gives a significant reward, possibly game-winning if you manage to complete both first.
Being the first to complete your board awards 1 point, but also denies your opponents the chance to maximise their score from groups of tiles and their personal goal.
Playing slowly by taking 1 tile at a time will hinder your chances at both finishing common goals and your board first. Don't do this too much.
