Playing a Turn
During their turns, the players choose one of the following actions:
Manage Keepers - The player can choose to hire, replace or dismiss a zookeeper, from one of the available piles and place/remove it at/from one of the zookeeper houses.
Save Species - The player can choose to save a species from the visible ones at the table or from his quarantine areas, by paying the necessary resources. The species needs to comply with one of the zookeeper objectives and is placed under him at the playmat. A zookeeper is full when he has 3 saved species under him. Bonus action: send a species to other players quarantine, if he has more saved species than you.
Move Species - The player can choose to move up to 2 cards by discarding any species from the grid and/or move to his quarantine areas. A quarantined specie can't be moved and may only be saved by the owner from that moment on. Species grid - Every time a species is removed from the table, the next player moves the column of cards down so that new species are visible.
Collect Resources - The player can take up to 6 resources randomly from the bag, one for each specie he has saved (under his zookeepers).
Free Actions During a Turn
Species grid refresh - When there are only 2 columns of species on the table, the active player can discard them and place another 12 specie cards on the table from the top of the deck.
Conservation Fund - When saving a species, each white resource can be used as 2 red or green resources. Additionally, at the beginning of his turn, the player take any extra resources from the bag, choose the ones he wants to keep and return in double to the bag.
End of Turn
At the end of their turn, the players can only have a maximum of 12 resources, out of which, a maximum of 5 white resources. Any excess resources will need to be discarded.
Game options
Secret objectives - This game mode introduces a new card type: secret objectives. Each player receives one of these cards at the beginning of the game. They allow the players to obtain additional victory points by saving certain kinds of species. The objective depends on the total recruited zookeepers points, so it can change during the course of the game.
Scoring
Game ends after a player saves 9 species. Victory points are calculated in the following way:
- X* points for each completed zookeepers
- X* points for each saved specie
- -2 points for each quarantined specie
- X* points for each saved specie that meets the secret objective.
'*as displayed in the cards.
