General

  • Try to win the game as quickly as possible.
  • Any cards you play can (and probably will) be used against you.
  • Inexperienced players are often so preoccupied with whether or not they can play a card, they don’t stop to think if they should play it.
  • Sometimes it can be beneficial to intentionally take the 3-card penalty.
    • There are at least two reasons why you might want this:
      1. To get a specific card, if you think you can not win without it.
      2. To deplete the deck and end the game in a tie.
  • It is sometimes possible to "trap" an opponent's card.
    • For example: suppose you have Q♥Q♥K♣K♣K♦K♦K♠K♠ in your hand, but you don't have K♥.
      • Any run that includes K♥ would require a Q♥, and any set that includes K♥ would require another K.
      • So if your opponent has one of the two K♥, they can never play it, so they can never win! (But they can still tie.)
