Truth: each kind of bird (flamingo, duck, etc.) can make a MAX of 3 flown home flocks - UNLESS any players started the game with a card in their collection of that same species.
Now, are there still enough birds to complete your flock?
- Tip: take a look at your and your opponents' flown home flocks to decide whether to go for 3 flocks each of 2 different bird species, or 1 flock each of 7 bird species.
If a player has already flown home 1 flock of a 6/9 or 4/6 bird species, it becomes impossible for anyone else to
collect 3 flown home flocks of that same species (note: the deck will be refilled with the discard pile when the last card is drawn.) . But this doesn't apply to any of the 2/3, 3/4, or 5/7 bird species
- those species each have enough birds in the deck for 1 large flock AND 2 small flocks total.
Before taking your turn, make sure you haven't miscounted! There is NO undo button!
Collecting Strategy: When collecting, consider other birds that could complete your & your opponent's next moves as well as your flock. If there are no good moves, better to draw or get a new hand - this discards your opponent's cards too, plus gives you 8 new cards and an extra move.
- Try not to give away good cards - When you pick up, match as many cards in your hand as you can. - Count the number of birds in your hand -- this tells you how many plays until you can trigger a new hand. - Always be aware of which birds you still need. - It's a race, so don't waste plays.
