Two main aspects of strategy:

  1. Tile placement
  2. Building placement

Tile Placement

  • Place the same terrain type as other empty spaces already adjacent to one of your settlements (to maximise expansion with Hut).
Example
Expand one settlement into all Sand:

  • Place Volcano away from your Hut that you need for a Temple until you can build the Temple.
  • Place Volcano adjacent to opponents' Hut that they need for a Temple to prepare to destroy them.
  • Create empty spaces between tiles to limit an opponent's tile placement.
  • Consider how your opponent may use your tile. e.g. if you destroy Hut, they may be able to place a level 3 tile and build a Tower.
  • Expect opponents to destroy your Hut that you need for Temple.

Building Placement

Temple are worth the most points at the end of the game.

  • Try to build 3-space settlements with Hut that cannot immediately be destroyed by an opponent.
  • Build settlements that can be easily separated from its Temple.
  • Reusing a settlement is usually the most efficient way to build more Temple.

  • Place a single Hut next to a space that an opponent may erupt to level 3 to build a Tower.
  • If a player erupts the land to level 2, an opponent may have the first opportunity to erupt to level 3 and build a Tower.
  • The safest way to win Taluva is to build Temple3 and Tower2, but a skilled opponent will disrupt your plans.
  • Building all Hut20 before Temple3 or Tower2 is very risky - remember if you cannot build anything, you lose immediately!
