I've never edited any of these strategy boxes, but here's some rules of thumb I follow when I play (I have been consistently high rated in Elo and in Arena both 2 and 3 players)
-Attempt the bonus challenges; you'll most likely be conceding 5 free points to your opponents if you ignore them.
-Use 3 or 4 colours on the outside and reserve 1 or 2 colours on the inside; there are 5 blocks at the core that won't be scored,
so don't place blocks there that you need for points/bonuses! Usually, you want to go for filling the whole core with
one or two colours that you don't wish to score points with.
-Try not to close any of your colours off; you might just get stuck with blocks you're unable to place, and the less blocks you place,
the less points you get!
-Go for a lot of one colour; The score you get for each block in each colour scales like this: 1,1,2,2,3,3,3,3,3,4,5,6.
This rewards you massively if you go for 10 or more blocks in a colour, and punishes you if you have a small/medium amount of blocks in all the colours. If you're in a large game and can take a monopoly on one colour, go for it.
-Pay attention to the blocks your opponent wants, not just what you want (Especially if you're playing in 2-player mode)!
If you have a worse turn order card, you might want to guess which market tile your opponent with the best turn order card will choose, and choose that one regardless of which tile actually benefits you. In a 2-player game, this is always the best move. In larger games, there's more room for interesting decisions. As an add-on: if you have the better turn order card, you might want to cling on to it for future rounds by picking a sub-optimal market tile.
-Deviate from these rules! If your opponents think you're going to play by the meta, you can try and trip them up by going for
big points in another way.
Best of luck in YAXHA!
