Dividing the number of cards in your hand by the number of players is a good place to start bidding. It is often easier to lose tricks than win, but betting more will earn more points, assuming you still make your bet.
Taking a toilet break between tricks may use up valuable decision time and annoy other players, it is not advised.
When in doubt, bid 3.
