Dividing the number of cards in your hand by the number of players is a good place to start bidding. It is often easier to lose tricks than win, but betting more will earn more points, assuming you still make your bet. Always bid at least 1 if you have an ace of the trump suit. Bidding 0 will mean you always win at least 1 point, but bid higher if you have high cards.
