Actions
* Select from the actions listed below, up to 4 actions per turn.
* Role special abilities may change how an action works.
* Some actions involve discarding a card from your hand.

Movement
Drive / Ferry
* Move to a city connected to the one you are in.

Direct Flight
* Discard a City card to move to the city named on the card.

Charter Flight
* Discard the City card that matches the city you are in to move to any city.

Shuttle Flight
* Move from a city with a research station to any other city that has a research station.

Build a Research Station
* Discard the City card that matches the city you are in to place a research station there.
* 6 research stations may be built.

Treat Disease
* Remove 1 disease cube from the city you are in.
** If this disease colour has been cured, remove all cubes of that colour from the city you are in.
* If the last cube of a cured disease is removed from the board, this disease is eradicated.

Share Knowledge
* You can do this action in two ways:
*# give the City card that matches the city you are in to another player, or
*# take the City card that matches the city you are in from another player.
* The other player must also be in the city with you.
** Both of you need to agree to do this.
* If the player who gets the card now has more than 7 cards, that player must immediately discard a card or play an Event card.

Discover a Cure
* At any research station, discard 5 City cards of the same colour from your hand to cure the disease of that colour.
* Move the disease’s cure marker to its Cure Indicator.
* If no cubes of this colour are on the board, this disease is now eradicated.

Roles
Contingency Planner
* Take an Event Card from the Discard pile and place it on the Role Card.
* It doesn't count against the limit of 7 hand cards.

Dispatcher
* Move any pawn to a city containing another pawn OR Move another player's pawn as if it were their own.

Medic
* Remove all cubes of a colour when treating a city.
* For any cured disease:
** Treats for free when entering city, and
** prevents cubes/Outbreaks in their location.

Operations Expert
* Build a Research Station in their location without discarding a city card.
* Once per turn, move to any city from a Research Station, using any city card.

Quarantine Specialist
* Prevents Outbreaks and placement of disease cubes in their location plus all connecting cities.

Researcher
* May give any card to a player in same location.

Scientist
* Can cure a disease by using only 4, not 5, cards of the same colour.

End of game
There is one way to win the game:
* Cure all 4 diseases.

There are three ways to lose the game:
* Having an eighth outbreak;
* Needing to place a cube on the board and there are no more cubes available;
* Needing to draw a city card and there are no more city cards available.

Goal
Gain the most Victory Points by the end of the game.

There are two ways to gain points:

* Acquiring buildings during the game for either a fixed or variable amount
* Acquiring Civilization cards during the game that give extra points at the end of the game

Rules summary
Each round is divided into 3 phases, which are executed in the order described:
* The players take turns placing their people on the game board.
* The players use the actions of their placed people all at once in turn order.
* The players feed their people.

Phase 1:
Place People on the Board
In turn order, one area at a time, players place one or more of their people in the different areas of the board. Each "ring" in each area of the board can only be occupied by one person. The exception to this rule is the hunting ground which can be occupied by as many people of any color every turn.

Special Considerations When Playing With Fewer Than 4 Players
When playing with 2 or 3 players: Of the non-resource areas (Tool Maker, Hut and Field) only two may be occupied per turn. The third place remains empty until the next round.

With 3 players: Of the resource areas (Forest, Clay Pit, Quarry and River) only 2 players may place people in each round, even if there are additional spaces for additional people.

With 2 players: Of the resource areas (Forest, Clay Pit, Quarry and River) only 1 player may place people in each round, even if there are additional spaces for additional people.

All remaining rules remain unchanged when playing with fewer than 4 players.

Phase 2:
Use the Actions of Your Placed People
In turn order each player uses all of their placed people in any order. During this phase, the following actions may be used:

* Hunting Grounds (Food), Forest (Wood), Clay Pit (Brick), Quarry (Stone), and River (Gold): Roll 1 dice per person placed and acquire food or resources according to the number rolled (1 Food for each full 2 on Hunting Grounds, 1 Wood for each full 3 on Forest, 1 Brick for each full 4 on Clay Pit, 1 Stone for each full 5 on Quarry, 1 Gold for each full 6 on River).

* Field: Placing a person in the Field increases your Agriculture Level. Each turn during the Feeding Phase, your Agriculture Level is subtracted from the amount of people you have. A higher agriculture level allows you to more easily sustain your population. You may have a maximum agriculture level of 10.

* Tool Maker: Placing a person on the Tool Maker adds one new Tool to your player board. You only have 3 tools on your player board, and each subsequent person placed on the Tool Maker upgrades one of your tools to the next level. You have a maximum of 3 level 4 tools.

* Hut: Place two People on the Hut to gain an extra Person to place (and feed) for the rest of the game. You may have a maximum of 10 people.

* Building Card: Buy the building with the resources shown on the Building Card, scoring the point value shown in the top-left corner (A question mark in the top-left corner is explained below).

* Civilization Card: Buy the card with a number of resources (of any kind) depending on its position in the Civilization Card Track (1 to 4 resources depicted above the card). The immediate effect of the card is applied when purchase. The bottom half of Civilization Card is used for scoring at the end of the game.

Resources and Food
Hunting Grounds, Forest, Clay Pit, Quarry, and River:
Roll 1 dice per Person placed in that area and take the corresponding resources:

* 1 Food (not a resource) for each full 2 on Hunting Grounds,
* 1 Wood for each full 3 on Forest,
* 1 Brick for each full 4 on Clay Pit,
* 1 Stone for each full 5 on Quarry,
* 1 Gold for each full 6 on River.

You may use tools to increase the dice result and take more resources. Each of your tool must be used all at once, and can be used once per turn. Some cards give you single-use tools which are lost after they are used, and don't count for final scoring.

Buildings
Pay the building cost to get the Building and receive the Point Value listed in the top-left corner of the card.

If the building cost is Not Fixed: If there is a question mark in the corner of the card, you win points for each of the resources used to acquire this building. The values of each resource correspond to the numbers it requires when people are placed on them:
* Each Wood is worth 3 Points,
* Each Brick is worth 4 Points,
* Each Stone is worth 5 Points,
* Each Gold is worth 6 Points.

Civilization Card Details
Each Civilization Card acquired brings an immediate advantage (depicted on the top half of the card) and some multiplier for final scoring (depicted on the bottom half of the card).

Place the mouse cursor on each card to see details in the tooltip.

Note that at the list of your acquired civilization cards you will see only the bottom half of each card, for the top half is no longer relevant.

Phase 3:
Feed Your People
Each Agriculture Level automatically counts as 1 Food during this phase.

You must provide 1 Food per Person.

In the event that you don't have enough food, you may use any resource to feed your people.

If you don't manage (or choose not) to feed your people by the means above, you lose all of your food and 10 points as a penalty.

Game End
The game ends when either:

* One Building Stack is empty at the end of a round, or
* There are insufficient Civilization cards to fill the 4 spots at the beginning of a round.

The final number of points for each player is decided by the conditions below:

* Points earned during the game by acquiring Buildings or Civilization, minus Food Penalties,
* Multipliers denoted at the bottom halves of Civilization Cards collected,
* Each Resource that a Player has leftover on their Player Board Scores 1 Point.

Variants
Harsh Winter
* Spend an extra stone when building certain buildings to score 5 points.
* Spend an extra gold when purchasing cards to score 6 points.

Wild Animals
* Four animal cards are shuffled into the civilization deck. When revealed, animals stay in play until driven off, subtracting 1, 2, or 3 from all dice rolls.
* Players must collectively place a total of X people on the card to drive it off (X = number of players).
* After driving off a wild animal, each player rolls 1 dice per person placed on it and receive the rewards.

Igloos
* Spend 3 resources of the same type to buy an igloo, which awards points like a building but does not count for the end-game building bonus.

The New Huts
* Adds new buildings that grant fewer points when built in exchange for a bonus (gain a wood/brick/stone each round, or +1 worker/tool/agriculture level). These do count for the end-game building bonus.

Mammoth Herd
* At the beginning of each round, a mammoth appears on the resource shown by the top-most bonus tile.
* Players who place their people there can also spend 1 food or resource per person to try to tame the mammoth.
* Each player who place people to tame the mammoth roll 1 dice per person.
* The player with the highest single dice is the mammoth tamer. Others are challengers.
* The mammoth tamer can choose to take the "1" or "all" bonus, as shown on the back of the bonus tile. The challengers take the "all" bonus.
* At the end of the game, the player with the most mammoth tile scores 10 points.

The Expansion
* A new location is available on the board: Merchant. 2 people are needed to use this place. When using, increase the merchant level by 2 and gain 2 jewelry.
* Once per round, for buying a card or a building, players can trade resources or jewelry to receive one or two resources or jewelry, depending on their levels. However, a player cannot trade if they are on space 0.
* The rules for Hunting Grounds has changed: for each full 2, 1 food or 1 jewelry can be taken.
* There is a new space for civilization cards: 3 jewelry is needed to buy a card on that space. After that, 3 extra jewelry can be spent to buy the topmost face down civilization card without applying its immediate effect.
* Jewelry is not a resource, therefore it can not be used to feed people and is worth nothing at the end of the game.
* When there are only 4 people, only 3 non-resource places are available each round. When there are only 2-3, 2 are available.
* Trade is not allowed for buying an igloo.
* The extra stone and extra gold of the Harsh Winter variant can not be obtained with a trade.

Interface help
Game actions
* If you want to buy a tile, you just have to click on it (see special case below).
* If you want to use a die to perform an action, you must first select the die, then:
** to take a tile from the main board to your storage, just click on it<div style="clear: both"></div>
** to place a tile, first click on the tile you want to place, then click on one of the possible spaces (they're highlighted, unless you have chosen the Display almost nothing choice for the Possible moves display user preference)<div style="clear: both"></div>
** to sell goods, just click on one of them<div style="clear: both"></div>
** to take workers, click on the worker icon on your player board, below your goods storage.<div style="clear: both"></div>
* Workers are automatically used if needed. They appear afterwards in the log message, but if you want to be sure before your action of how many workers are needed, you can enable the Display workers needed user preference.
* Green borders mean "available / possible", blue borders mean "selected".

Special case
In general, to avoid useless clicks, you only need to click on a tile to buy it, without having to specify you want to buy it. This is possible because in general, no confusion is possible since the tiles you can buy are not the same that the ones you can take with a die. And even with yellow tile #6, you need to select a die first if you want to take a tile (not buy it).

But sometimes (yellow tile #6 in 2019 edition), one click is not enough. In these cases, you should still first click on the tile you want to buy, then you will be asked if you want to buy it with workers or silverlings, and if you're in the middle of an action with a castle advantage, you will be asked if you want to buy this tile or if you want to take it with the castle advantage.

Hints
* You can undo your whole turn at any time during your turn by clicking on the Undo red button in the action bar. Other players don't see your actions in their interface until you have confirmed your turn, and they see only your confirmed actions, so it won't bother them and mess their game log. But some informations are not totally hidden: some users could know about the type of tiles you placed (a castle, a ship or some of the buildings). So if you really want to hide your plans for future turns, just think before you click and don't place tiles unless you're sure you will actually confirm that you place them. Note that players replaying a finished game from your point of view will see all your trials and undone actions.
* It is not and it will not be possible to cancel only your last move, you can only cancel your whole turn (too much programming work, not worth it, and if you're afraid of not remembering the moves you played when you undo your whole turn, they're still visible in the game log).
* A die can be unselected (you can also directly select the other die) if you change your mind and want to use the other die, or buy a tile before. If you have selected a tile in your storage to place it in your estate / duchy, you can also unselect it, or directly select another tile.

Display
* You can click on the button next to a player's name (under the order track discs on the main game board) to move this player's board to the beginning of player boards (this can avoid having to scroll too much when you want to see your opponents' boards).<div style="clear: both"></div>
* Don't forget that like in any BGA game, you can disable tooltips (in the user preferences menus) if they annoy you. You still have the Tile help section below the player boards if you need help.
* You can display sold goods: there are tooltips on the stack of your sold goods. If you have a mouse, you can hold your pointer above your stack, if you're using a touch device, you can usually display tooltips with a long press (or a "double then long" press).
* If you can't display tooltips with your touch device or if you selected the "no tooltips" user preference, you can still display sold goods by clicking on the sold goods stack.
* With the Zoom level User preference, you can resize all the game elements to fit your screen width: make them smaller to be able to see more boards at the same time, or make them bigger to enjoy bigger images. User preferences are accessible with the cog icon in your player panel, or, like in any BGA game, with the "hamburger menu" a the top right of the page, or in the Options tab at the bottom of the page.
* In 3 players games, one of the space for six-sided tiles next to depot 6 (on the main board) is half dark green, half grey, with letters on it. This is to remind players that in 3 players games, this space gets a castle tile in phases A, C and E, and a mine tile in phases B and D.<div style="clear: both"></div>

Replay
It is not possible to start a replay from one of the moves that happened during one of your turns. You can start a replay from any other point.

Game options
Differences between 1st edition and 2019 edition
* Two yellow six-sided tiles (called knowledge tiles in 1st edition and monasteries in 2019 edition) award a different number of points (see image)<div style="clear: both"></div>
* Another yellow tile (#6) is different: in addition to let you buy tiles in numbered depots, it lets you buy tiles (anywhere) with two silverlings OR TWO WORKERS.
* In 2019 edition, you are allowed to buy a tile during your action.<br />
Note: the implementation on BGA doesn't allow to buy a tile at any moment, because it would not be useful. You can do it only when you just placed a castle or a city hall.
* New art for six-sided tiles, goods tiles and bonus tiles (the new art for other game elements is not included in this online implementation because it wouldn't fit).
* One more player board, labelled number 2 in 2019 edition, and available in 4 copies so that it can be used for beginner setup. This board is available in both 1st edition and 2019 edition options of this implementation. The board that was labelled number 2 in first edition was given number 10 in 2019 edition, so it has number 10 in this online implementation, regardless of the chosen edition option.
* A few confusing name changes. I tried to avoid possible confusions in this implementation: some of the in-game text is different depending on which edition you play (e.g. estate / duchy), while for other elements, I decided to use the same term in both editions (e.g. yellow tile for knowledge tile / monastery).

Different game setup options
The default option on BGA is Random board without board #8, and not Beginner setup, because it is probably the most interesting for most players, and it is not really problematic if beginers join games with this option. But they can be disadvantaged if they choose a poor space for their starting castle, so beginner setups are still better choices for beginners (they don't have to choose a starting castle space), even if other options are not strongly discouraged.
* Classical setup: this is the setup described at the very end of the rulebook: each player is given a two-sided estate / duchy cardboard, and must choose one side. To simulate play with the physical game, two players can't have the same cardboard.
* One random board per player: each player is given a single random duchy / estate among available ones. Two players can have the same duchy / estate.
* Random board without board 8: same as above, but board #8 is removed from available boards (many consider this board unbalanced).
* Identical (random) board for all players: all players play with the same board, randomly chosen among available boards.
* Beginner setup: all players play with the same beginner board, with their first castle already placed in the middle. This option exists in three variants: with board #1, with board #2, or with a random board among #1 and #2 (the same board for all players).

User preferences
Workers needed
The number of workers needed for each action you can do with a die can be displayed next to the tiles you can click.

Possible moves display
Possible actions can be highlighted with a green border. This is an option because some players will find these big green borders not good-looking, especially when there are a lot of them at the same time. There are three options for this preference:
Always display all possible moves
Every place you can click to trigger an action, that is not a blue or red button, is highlighted with a green border.
Display non obvious possible moves
Non obvious is subjective, the choice made was to display only tiles that can be placed and possible estate / duchy destinations for the Place tile action, and tiles that can be taken for free from the main board, with a church, market or carpenter.
Display almost nothing
The only things that will be highlighted are the Take workers icon, and the depots when you have to choose goods after having placed a ship, because since these are not tiles, it's not obvious where to click to trigger these actions.

Estate / duchy background
You can choose to display a lighter background for estate spaces, which will make the tiles stand out more.

SapientFridge: /* SINGLE PLAYER TIPS */

MULTIPLAYER GENERAL TIPS
Diced Tomatoes is a simple dice drafting game with a bit of strategy/tactics. The main thing to know if that the dice placed on the tomato token becomes the score thus it is important to start your tomato vine with the highest number possible. If you roll a low number you should "gift" it to your opponents. This locks them into scoring a low number if the vine is completed.

Use the "rotten' (black) dice strategically.

They can be used to lower opponent's score value but also to help you clear unwanted low-scoring vines.

Say, your opponent placed dice with value of 1 on your tomato. There are two ways to prevent yourself from scoring that 1 point -
1. use karma to clear the entire vine,
2. try to roll a black dice match to this vine (like 1 or 2) which will clear the vine at the end of your turn.

Picking 3 black dice or 3 gold dice on the first turn of the game IS NOT A GOOD IDEA - those dice cannot be placed on the tomato token so you will have to pass them all to the next player.

Another tactic you can employ is to drain the dice pool in order to finish the game prematurely. The game ends immediately when a player starts the game without any dice in the Bushel. So if you either place dice without generating a score or pass dice to the next player when there are no dice in the Bushel you can trigger the end of game.

Don't be afraid to complete opponent's tomato vines

Completing opponent's vines earns you karma points which give you some abilities to change things on your turn. Use black dice to complete opponent's vines, especially if you can lower their score by more than 1 point - remember, the karma you score is based on the seed dice (the dice placed on the tomato token) and not the score they get. So if you finish opponent's vine with a seed dice 5 but with 3 black dice attached to it they only score 2 points while you score 3 karma (based on 5 seed points).

SINGLE PLAYER TIPS
The point of the single player mode is to train yourself how you can and when you should modify the dice by using the Karma, black dice and gold dice (if you choose the Sunny Gold Hybrid variant).

Single player mode can teach you the role of the "rotten" dice. You can win the game by sheer luck but if the dice are not on your side you can use the black dice to change the situation to your benefit. Remember that just because you placed a 3 on the tomato token doesn't mean that you have to score that number. You can add 2 black dice to lower that score to 1 for example.

Similarly you can use the gold/yellow dice (part of the Sunny Gold Hybrid) to raise the score of the vine or to cancel out any black dice already on the vine. Note that if you raise the score too high (over 6 points) the vine will score nothing when completed.

Don't be too quick to use hearts at the beginning of the game. You will most likely need them towards the end. You earn hearts every time you score even if your score is negative.

Sometimes it is a good idea to prevent a dice from being placed if you have the hearts to change its value. When you pass the dice you will roll a larger set the next turn which might give you more options to choose from.

Objective
The objective of the game is to use your companions to gain experience by exploring dungeons and fighting monsters. The game consists of 3 delves.

Player's Turn
The adventurer roll all 7 party dice to determine his companions.

Monster Phase
* Roll a number of dungeon dice equals to the level (up to 10) as the monsters.
* Set aside all dragons: they cannot be rerolled.
* The adventurer can use a scroll to reroll any number of party and/or dungeon dice.
* The adventurer uses his companions to fight monsters. After using, they are moved to the graveyard.
* The adventurer can use his hero's ability (specialty or ultimate ability).
* If the monsters are defeated, proceed to the loot phase. Otherwise, the adventurer flees and gain no experience.

Loot Phase
* A thief or a champion can be used to open any number of chests. Other companions can only open a chest.
* The adventurer gets a treasure for each opened chest. If there are no treasures left, use an experience as a replacement.
* Any party dice can be used to quaff any number of potions. A potion can revive a companion with its face choosed by the adventurer.

Dragon Phase
* If there are 3 or more dragons in the lair, the dragon arrives.
* A dragon needs 3 different types of companions to be defeated.
* If the dragon is not defeated, the adventurer flees and gain no experience.
* If the dragon is defeated, the adventurer gains a treasure and 1 experience.

Regroup Phase
* The adventurer can choose between retire and seek glory.
* If the adventurer chooses to retires, he collects the number of experiences as the level. The delve is over.
* If the adventurer chooses to seek glory, he moves on to the next level with all his remaining active dice. The number of dungeon dice also increases by 1.
* If the level dice is at 10, the adventurer has cleared the dungeon and must retire.

Companions
* A cleric can defeat a goblin, an ooze or any number of skeletons.
* A fighter can defeat a skeleton, an ooze or any number of goblins.
* A mage can defeat a goblin, a skeleton or any number of oozes.
* A thief can defeat a monster or used to open any number of chests.
* A champion can defeat any number of a type of monsters or open any number of chests.

Treasures
They are collected by opening chests and defeating dragons. Each treasure token can be used only once. Unused tokens are worth 1 experience each unless specified.

* Vorpal Sword: Use as a fighter.
* Talisman: Use as a cleric.
* Scepter of Power: Use as a mage.
* Thieves' Tools: Use as a thief.
* Scroll: Use as a scroll.
* Dragon Scales: Each pair of dice is worth 2 additional experiences.
* Elixir: Use as a potion.
* Dragon Bait: Transform all monsters to dragon faces, and move them to the dragon's lair.
* Town Portal: Use when unable to defeat monsters or dragons to collect experiences equal to the level. If unused it is worth 2 points instead of 1.

Hero Powers
Heros are avatars that represents adventurers. All heros begin the game on its novice side, and is flipped to the master side when 5 experiences is gained. Each hero has a specialty (use as many times as you like) and ultimate ability (usable once per delve).
