Scrapyard Tinkers is a 2 players dice drafting game with a Steampunk theme.

Play as one of the tinkers with unique abilities, dive into the scrapyard, gather loot, complete Contracts, and be the one that earns most Marks at the end of the day.

# Overview

In Scrapyard Tinkers, players run into the scrapyard to search for Loot (get dice from the bag), split it up (draft the dice), and use it to complete Contracts.

The game is played over 6 turns. After that, the player that earned most Marks is the winner.

Each Contract has requirements on the type, amount, and value of the dice. You have to match them all to complete it.

There are 3 different materials in the game, each represented by a different colored dice:

Brass, represented by Yellow
Copper, represented by Red
Steel, represented by Blue

Each player has a character card with special abilities to manipulate the dice.

There are 3 types of cards: Contracts, Characters, and Scenarios. We will cover Contracts and Characters in detail, as they are key to play the game.

We recommend playing a few games without Scenarios and adding them once you are familiar with the game. See Playing with scenarios for details.

## Contracts

Contracts represent the requests from your clients. Each card has requirements about the type, amount, and values required for the dice to complete the Contract.

A Contract card has the following parts:

Name: A descriptive name (e.g. Stalwart Twin Drive)
Marks: How many Marks you earn when completing this Contract
Blueprint: A visual representation of the Contract requirements: Type, amount, and values required for the dice to complete the Contract using large colored cogs.
Specs: A textual explanation of the Contract requirements in text: Type, amount and values required for the dice to complete the Contract.

## Characters

A character card has 4 sections: Name , Title, Profile Pic and Abilities

Each character has 2 abilities. Most of them are activated abilities that require 1 Energy Token to use.

As an example, Ignis has the abilities Fuse and Copperburn that allow the player to manipulate a Copper die.

# How to Play

Scrapyard Tinkers is played over 6 turns, each turn is structured in the following phases:

Scavenge
Split the Loot
Complete Contracts
Cleanup

At the end of the 6th turn, the scrapyard closes, and the player with most Marks is the winner. The player who has used a screwdriver most recently goes first (you can roll a die to decide who starts if you prefer).

The player that goes first is called the Runner, and gets the Clock. The second player is called the Handler. These roles change each turn.

## Setup

Shuffle the character cards deal one character to each player.

Place 2 Energy Tokens on each character card. They are used to activate abilities, and they are single use. Use them wisely.

If playing with scenarios, pick one now.

Shuffle the Contracts into a deck and place it face down. This deck represents the Pipeline of Contracts coming.

### Draft Initial Contracts

Deal 4 cards from the Pipeline deck face up.

Players draft following a 1-2-1 sequence.

The Runner (a.k.a. 1st player) picks 1 card
The Handler (a.k.a. 2nd player) picks 2 cards
The Runner takes the remaining card

These are the players’ current Contracts. Each player always has 2 current Contracts.
### Set up Intake

Deal 3 cards from the Pipeline face up in the middle of the table to create the Intake. This is where players can pick new Contracts from.

Set the Clock at 1, and place it on the side of player acting as Runner. You are ready to begin.

## Turn Structure

Each turn, the player holding the Clock is the Runner, the other player is the Handler. Roles swap each turn in the cleanup phase.

A turn has 4 phases:

Scavenge
Split the Loot
Complete Contracts
Cleanup

### Scavenge

The Runner draws 4 dice randomly from the dice bag and rolls them. This is the Loot for the turn.

Each colored die represents a different material, the number on the die represents the size of the gear.

### Split the Loot

To split the Loot follow a 1-2-1 sequence:

The Runner picks 1 die
The Handler picks 2 dice
The Runner takes the remaining die

### Complete Contracts

Starting with the Handler, players take turns completing a Contract or passing until both players pass consecutively.

You can complete a Contract if you have dice in your loot that match its requirements. You can use abilities now to modify your dice.

When you complete a Contract, put the dice used back into the Dice Bag, put it aside, then pick a new one from the Intake, and finally deal a new Contract from the Pipeline into the Intake.

You can complete more than 1 Contract per turn, but you have to give the other player a chance to complete a Contract after each one.

### Cleanup

If the Clock die is at 6, the game ends, see Finishing the game. Otherwise:

If any player has more than 6 dice, they discard the extra dice returning them to the bag.

Increase the number on the Clock by 1.

Pass the Clock to the other player. They are the Runner for the next turn.
Finishing the game

Once the 6th turn is over, it is time to score.

Each completed Contract gives its Mark value.

In case of a tie, the tiebreakers are (in order):

The player with the highest value Contract is the winner
The player that has more completed Contracts is the winner
The player with more unspent Energy Tokens is the winner

In the unlikely case of a complete tie, the second player is the winner.
Playing with Scenarios

Once you feel comfortable with the base game and want to spice it up, it is time for Scenarios.

Each Scenario provides a different play experience: Access to more Contracts, limited resources, alternative ways to end the game, etc.

You can agree on a Scenario, or you can pick one at random at the beginning of the game.
