MOCHU035: Added section for different maps. Also removed a few extraneous punctuations in prior sections.

Welcome to Ark Nova! In this game, you'll manage a modern zoo. In addition to putting popular and well-liked animals into it, you'll also aim to research more into zoology and support conservation projects and sponsorships. You'll do this by taking one of five actions each turn, with each them having strength related to how far they've progressed on your track - the longer it's been since the last time you took that action, the more powerful it'll be. Your score is measured by both your Appeal and Conservation points, and when they cross each other on the scoring track, the game has ended. The most points, as measured by how far apart these two trackers are from each other, wins the game!

==What To Do On Your Turn==
When it's your turn, you'll choose one of the five action cards in front of you to act with. This action has a strength associated with it, based on where it is along the bottom of your board, ranging from 1 to 5. You'll be able to add to this value by spending X-tokens. After performing that action, it returns to the far left position, at strength 1, while all other action cards move one space to the right.

Upon achieving certain conditions, you'll be able to upgrade these action cards as well by flipping them to the pink side, where they will remain for the rest of the game. These upgraded actions will usually allow you to use these actions more efficiently or at higher strength, but otherwise follow the same rules as their basic form.

===The Build Action===
The Build action allows you to build a new enclosure 1 to 5 tiles in size (needed in order to play animals), or another special building in your zoo. To do this, you'll pay 2 money per space covered by the tile. All tiles must be placed adjacent to another tile, and no tiles can be placed on top of each other, the rock or water spaces already printed on your zoo, or outside the zoo's borders. However you can cover a space with a yellow pentagon, and upon doing so you gain the bonus pictured on it.

====== Special buildings ======
A Kiosk is a dark gray building of size 1. These give money during the income phase -- 1 money for each building adjacent building, excluding empty enclosures.

A Pavilion is a pink building of size 1. Upon placing these, you gain 1 appeal.

A Petting Zoo is a special enclosure of size 3, Some animals require being placed in a petting zoo, but it's special in that multiple animals can coexist on this tile.

===== Upgraded Build Action =====

# Allows you to build multiple buildings with size no more than the action strength (as long as you can pay for all of them) -- for example at strength 5, you could build a size 3 enclosure, size 1 enclosure, and a kiosk all at once),
# Allows you to build on spaces requiring the upgraded Build action.
# Allows you to build the Reptile House and Large Bird Aviary. These can house multiple animals of a particular type. (Note you can move qualifying animals in when you build it, freeing up those enclosures)
===The Cards Action===

The Cards action allows you to draw more cards. Depending on the strength of this action, you'll draw one or more cards from the top of the deck and possibly discard cards from your hand (including ones you just drew). At strength 5, you may instead snap one card from the board directly to your hand. Keep in mind a hand limit will be enforced during Breaks. Additionally note Cards also gives 2 Break.

==== Upgraded Cards Action ====

# Allows you to draw cards from the board within your reputation range (to the left of your reputation marker)
# Allows you to snap (from the board) at strength 3 or more
# Allows your reputation range to reach the higher levels
===The Animals Action===

The Animals action allows you to play animal cards. Each animal has a money cost and also enclosure of a specific size or higher. (Some may also need to border the rocks/or water.)

''Take note any other requirements on the left side, such as requiring that you already have a particular icon.'' (Icons the card gives you when in play will be at the top.)

When you play a new animal card, you gain the bonuses on the bottom of the card. The most common things this gives are

# Appeal points (number in a ticket)
# Conservations points (number in a green box)
# Reputation points (number in a black mortar board cap)

You may also gain icons at the top of the card, which may give additional benefits if called out by another card/component in play.

==== Upgraded Animals Action ====

# Allows you to play multiple animal cards at a lower strength
# Allows you to play animals from your reputation range (to the left of your reputation marker) and not just your hand
# Allows you to play certain animals that list this as a requirement
===The Sponsors Action===
This action allows you to play a sponsor card from your hand, less than or equal to the action's strength. Note these typically don't cost money to play, but may have other requirements. These may give benefits (such as money or appeal points) now, later, or at the end of the game:

# A yellow section lists what you get immediately when played,
# A purple section lists what you get on each income phase (listed with a hand)
# A blue section lists what you get upon another condition such as playing or getting certain icons.
# A brown section lists what you get at the end of the game
You can also take this action to you can gain money equal to the action's strength and Break equal to the action's strength (instead of playing a sponsor card).

==== Upgraded Sponsors Action ====

# Allows you to play sponsors from the board within reputation range (to the left of your reputation marker)
# Allows you to gain money equal to the twice the action's strength (and Break equal to the action's strength)
# Allows you to play sponsors that list this as a requirement
===The Association Action===

The Association action allows you to send workers to the association board to take actions there. You have a limited pool, but can gain more workers as the game progresses. Note taking the same association action a second time in the round costs two workers instead of one, though other players' workers do not affect this worker cost. Depending on the actions strength, you can take an action at that strength or less.

* Strength 2: Gain 2 reputation (one of the most straightforward ways to get reputation)
* Strength 3: Gain a partner zoo (handshake) from another continent. Playing animals from that continent costs 3 less money, and you gain an icon of that type. Place this on the right side of your board (starting at the bottom) -- you gain any bonus this covers up.
* Strength 4: Gain a partner university (gray monument) -- these may give reputation, research icons, or improved hand limit during Breaks.
* Strength 5: You can support a conservation project (existing or from hand) -- these will typically be some milestone, for example requiring specific symbols.

==== Conservation Projects ====
Typically conservation projects will give conservation points and possibly other benefits. To claim one in play (or from your hand), place a cube on the level you wish to complete, taking a cube from the left side of your player board. Whatever space the cube comes off is the benefit you'll get -- and if it comes from the purple/yellow section, you get the bonus immediately and each income phase. Note you typically can't claim more than level of a particular conservation project.

If a conservation project requires you to "release an animal", you'll be discarding a previously played animal, losing its appeal points and icons, as well as emptying its enclosure. However you'll still have the conservation points and can reuse the enclosure.

==== Upgraded Association Action ====

* Allows you to split the strength between multiple actions
* Allows you to have more partner zoos and partner universities
* Allows you to donate money once directly to get conservation points, in addition to your other action. Put a cube on each exchange rate when done -- it gets more expensive as these actions are taken, to a maximum of 12 money for a conservation point.
===The X-Token action===

One extra action you have for your turn is to take one X-Token from the supply. Recall you can spend X-tokens to increase the strength of your action by 1 strength per token. After doing this X-token action, move any of your action cards to strength 1 of your board as if you took that action. (You only get one token regardless of the strength of the card moved.)

== Tracks ==

=== Break Track ===
Players continue taking actions until the break track is met or exceeded. (For example, from taking the Cards action, or gaining money with the Sponsors action.) Then, the following steps happen:

# Players discard down to their hand limit. (Note this may have increased if you have the related partner university)
# Take any multiplier tokens off action cards, and any venom/constriction tokens off animal cards, if any exist
# Return Association workers to the players and Replenish the partner zoos and partner universities to the Association board so that there is one of each again.
# Discard the top two cards of the card display, slide the remaining cards down, and replenish the display.
# Take income from appeal, kiosks, sponsor, and left side of board)

Then the break track marker resets and the next player can take their turn.

=== Appeal Track and Conservation Track ===
To track how many Appeal points and Conservation points players have, players each move their token on the tracks. (On boardgamearena, you can click the appeal + conservation icon in the top right to see this.) Note these tokens start in opposite ends.

Moving your marker further on the appeal track increase the amount of income you get per turn

Moving your marker to certain key points on the Conservation track gives effects in pentagons

* (At 2 points) You may upgrade an action or get an Association worker
* (At 5 and 8 points) You may gain a benefit chosen for that particular game, each shown in a yellow pentagon. (Everyone can get the 5 money bonus, but only one player can get each of the others)
* (At 10 points) '''All players''' discard one of their bonus cards from the game start. (This only happens the first time this is reached.)
-

=== Reputation Track ===
The Reputation track is largely used for drawing and playing from reputation range. By playing directly from the display, players can more efficiently play animals, start sponsorships, and complete conservation projects. Note that playing directly from reputation range has an additional cost equal to the location in the display -- playing an animal at the 6 folder would cost 6 additional money.

As with the conservation track, there are bonus effects when crossing certain levels on the track, most of which are near the end of the track. Keep in mind players will need the upgraded cards action to gain more than 9 reputation.

==Game End==

If at the end of your turn or during a break your Conservation counter and Appeal counter are ever in the same scoring area, or if they have passed one another, the end of the game is triggered.

If the end of the game is triggered at the end of your turn, all other players (but not you) will take one more turn. If the end of the game is triggered during a break, all players (including you) will take one more turn.

At the end of the game, you still get conservation points or appeal from your Final Scoring card(s), as well as from all your cards with an end-of-game icon.

==Score==

To determine your score look at the scoring area where your conservation counter is located. Find the lowest appeal value in that scoring area. This is your Target Number. Compare your Target Number to the value of your appeal counter. Subtract your Target Number from your appeal value and the result is your Victory Points. The player with the highest positive Victory Point total is the winner. In case of a tie, the tied player who supported the most Conservation Projects wins the game.
==Maps==

'''Map 1 (Observation Tower):''' The enclosure must be adjacent to the space with the tower, not merely to any one of the other 3 rock spaces. The platform has no effect on special enclosures. If you release an animal into the wild (and thus flip an occupied enclosure back to the empty side) and then accommodate a new animal in this enclosure, you gain the 2 appeal again. The Observation Tower itself does not count as a building (e. g. for kiosks).

'''Map 2 (Outdoor Areas):''' The enclosure must be adjacent to the space with the Outdoor Area, not merely to any one of the other 4 water spaces. The Outdoor Area has no effect on special enclosures. Treat any standard enclosure adjacent to the Outdoor Areas as if it were 2 spaces larger (after it is placed there). The Outdoor Area itself is not considered a building (e. g. for kiosks). Example: If you have built a standard 1-space enclosure adjacent to the Outdoor Area, you may accommodate an animal there that requires an enclosure of 1, 2, or 3 spaces.

'''Map 4 (Commercial Harbor):''' The Commercial Harbor is considered to be connected as soon as you have placed a building on the adjacent building space. You may build your first building directly adjacent to the Commercial Harbor, but you do not have to. You may use the ability at any time during your turn, before, after, or during an action. However, you may only discard 1 card with the Commercial Harbor per turn. You may not use the ability during a break or someone else’s turn. The Commercial Harbor itself does not count as a building (e. g. for kiosks).

'''Map 5 (Park Restaurant):''' During the break, you gain income of 1 money for each space adjacent to the Park Restaurant with a building on it. It does not matter if these are single buildings or if several spaces belong to the same building. It also doesn’t matter what kind of buildings you build there and whether enclosures are occupied or not. The Park Restaurant itself does not count as a building.

'''Map 6 (Research Institute):''' The Research Institute is considered connected as soon as you have placed a building on the adjacent building space. You may build your first building directly adjacent to the Research Institute, but you do not have to. Once active, you can play Animal cards even when you are 1 condition short; you must still fulfill all other conditions. You cannot ignore rock or water requirements.

'''Map 7 (Ice Cream Parlors):''' If you have covered all bonus spots granting kiosks, you gain 1 additional money for each kiosk on your zoo map as income during the break. It does not matter if these kiosks were built as placement bonuses or by other means. It also does not matter if they generate income without this bonus or not.

'''Map 8 (Hollywood Hills):''' Spaces with an 'H' may be covered like any other space. This is similar to a placement bonus, but does not count as one (e. g. for card 221). Every time you place a building on an H, reveal cards from the deck one by one until you reveal a Sponsor card. Add this card to your hand and put all other revealed cards onto the discard pile. Once you have covered all 3 spaces, the level of each Sponsor card you play is 1 lower.

MOCHU035: Added tie-breaker quick reference

===Overview===

The game lasts 6 rounds where you will be building the greatest Civilization you can to earn the most points

===Turn 1===

First pick a civilization which has both an active (yellow) and passive (grey) ability along with the number of meeples it earns you on the side, any not picked gain 1 coin

Secondly, you can take actions or rest. If you Rest, you gain 2 coins and 1 worker, but may only have a max of 4 workers in your supply. If you take actions, you pick the spaces you wish to go to, which generally come in 4 types: white space which only requires a number of workers, white space which requires workers and money, red space which will require a worker sacrifice, red space which require a sacrifice and money. White spaces give you your workers back at the end, red spaces do not.

Finally, activate any turn end abilities, if you have them

===Turn 2-6===

The second and third steps are the same as turn 1, with a difference to step 1

You can either take a new civilization or not.

If you take a new civilization, you can either choose for it to be active (Rise) or passive (Annex). If it is active, your previous civilization loses its active ability but retains its passive one. If it is passive, your previous civilization retains everything, and the new one adds only its passive power.

If you make it active, it also gives you workers equal to its worker stats.

If you make it passive, it adds one worker to a maximum of 4.

'''Important: You can only have a maximum of 3 civilization cards. If you already own 3 you can only pass this step!'''
===Round End===

At end of a round, three things happen

Firstly, first player marker is shifted

Secondly, the action options will shift, gaining one and losing another

Thirdly, check the new card for top left symbols: If no symbol, nothing happens, if sword then a war will happen, if meeple then a plague will happen

War: The player(s) with the least shields lose 1 worker

Plague: Everyone loses 1 worker

===Final Round===

At the end of the 6th round, you also activate any end game bonuses you may have collected

===Tie-Breakers===

Most workers. Then Most coins. If still tied, share victory.

You can only have one federation, but each time the power value of your federation becomes a multiple of 7, you may take the "Form A Federation" action again. You must discard Q.I.C. instead of power tokens to make satellites.
| style="background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);" | As a special action, place a space station on an accessible space that does not contain a planet or another space station. The accessibility of a space follows the same rules as the “Build a Mine” action.
If you do take that tech tile, no advancement occurs. As a free action, you can move a Gaiaformer from a Gaiaformer space on your faction board to your Gaia area to gain one Q.I.C. Gaiaformers in your Gaia area are not available until the next Gaia phase. In the next Gaia phase, move any Gaiaformer in your Gaia area back to its Gaiaformer space.
| style="background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);" | You can now advance in the “Navigation” research area.
Advancing in a research area is explained on page 15. This counts as an “Upgrade to a Trading Station” action. You can later upgrade the trading station back into a research lab using the normal rules (including gaining a new tech tile).
| style="vertical-align:bottom;" | NA
| style="background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);" | The positions of your planetary institute and academies are swapped on your faction board, as is the income you gain for trading stations and research labs. As with the other factions, upgrading to an academy or a research lab allows you to gain a tech tile. Once per round, as an action, you can advance your lowest-level token in a research area (without paying knowledge). If multiple of your tokens are tied for the lowest level, choose which of the tied tokens to advance. To advance to level 5 this way, you must still flip a federation token as normal. Remember, only one player can reach level 5 of each research area.
| style="background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);" | The power value of your structures on gray planets (your home type) is increased by one (in addition to any other effects that increase their power value).
This does not count as spending power.
| style="background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.85);" | You can spend power tokens in area III of your power cycle as if they were each two power. Otherwise, they count as one power token (when starting a Gaia Project, building satellites, etc.). When paying for a power action with an odd power cost (1, 3, 5, etc.), the unspent power is lost.

==Rules to Remember==
* Starting Resources (before receiving income at the beginning of Round 1) - Ore: 4, Knowledge: 3, Credits: 15.
* Resource Storage Limits - Ore: 15, Knowledge: 15, Credits: 30.

==Actions==
# '''Build a Mine''' - This places a mine on the board, which usually give you ore as income. These mines must be at most a distance away from another building of yours equal to your navigation (the second track from the left). You must pay the cost of the mine. If it's a Gaia planet (green planets without gaiaformers on them), you must also pay one QIC. If it's some other planet type, you must pay additional ore - the exact cost is determined by your terraforming ability (the first track from the left) and the number of terraforming steps required to make the destination planet habitable for your faction.
# '''Start a Gaia Project''' - This allows you to transform Transdim planets (purple) into a Gaia planet. You can only do this if you have at least one available gaiaformer, which you can get as a result of the Gaia Project track (the fourth track from the left). To do this, move power tokens into the gaia section of your board. These tokens are not lost - you'll get them back as the last step of the income phase. At the start of the next round, these planets are now Gaia planets and you can build mines on them normally (without spending a QIC like you normally would to build on a Gaia Planet). The gaiaformer is removed (and sent to your faction board) only after you decide to build on these planets (they are "reserved" for you until then).
# '''Upgrade Existing Structure''' - Mines can be upgraded to Trading Stations, which usually produce credits - note that this has a cheaper cost if it's at most two units away from an opponent's structure. Trade Centers can be upgraded to either a Planetary Institute (which produces power and unlocks an ability specific to your faction) or Research Labs, which produce knowledge and allows you to immediately take a technology tile and advance on one of the tracks (if able, depending on your current position in the track). Research Labs can be upgraded to Academies, which also let you gain more technologies and produce either knowledge or QIC (or other resources depending on the faction).
# '''Form a Federation''' - This allows you to combine structures to gain more points. To do this, you need any cluster of structures whose total power level is 7 or more. This can include empty space as well, but for each empty space included this way, pay 1 power token from any bowl to create a satellite. For doing this, you gain a federation token, which gives you immediate points, some other resource bonus, and can later be spent to advance to the top position of a research track or gain advanced technology tiles.
# '''Research Progress''' - Spend 4 knowledge to advance on any track. The tracks are
##Terraforming, which improves your ability to terraform planets
##Navigation, which increases the range at which you can build structures
##Artificial Intelligence, which gives you more QIC
##Gaia Project, which allows you to start Gaia Projects on Transdim planets
##Economy, which increase your ore, credits, power charge income
##Science, which increases your knowledge income.
# '''Power and Q.I.C. Actions''' - Spend power or QICs to take any of the actions at the bottom of the research board. Each of these can be taken only once per round.
# '''Special Actions''' - Use any actions printed on booster tiles or your faction board. These can be taken only once per round.
# '''Pass''' - Select a new booster tile. Wait until all other players have passed too.
# '''Free Actions''' - Resource Conversions (or burn power to move power from Bowl 2 to Bowl 3).
# '''Passive Action''' - Charging power. Spend VP as necessary depending on the amount of power being charged. This is optional.

Advancing in a research area is explained on page 15. This counts as an “Upgrade to a Trading Station” action. ==Rules to Remember==
* Starting Resources (before receiving income at the beginning of Round 1) - Ore: 4, Knowledge: 3, Credits: 15.
* Resource Storage Limits - Ore: 15, Knowledge: 15, Credits: 30.

==Actions==

|Terra
|When you take the “Build a Mine” action, you may build a mine on a planet colonized by an opponent (including the Lost Planet). Place your mine next to the opponent’s structure. You do not have to pay for terraforming, but you must still pay the mine’s cost. This mine counts as a normal mine in all ways except the following: this mine cannot be upgraded, and it does not count for any effects that relate to how many planet types or Gaia planets you have colonized.
|Desert
|You place a third starting mine after all other starting mines have been placed.
|Gleens
|Desert
|If you would ever gain Q.I.C., gain that much ore instead; once you have upgraded to the indicated academy, this effect no longer applies. To make a Gaia Planet habitable, pay one ore instead of one Q.I.C. Each time you build a mine on a Gaia Planet, gain two additional VP.
You must discard Q.I.C. instead of power tokens to make satellites.
|When you upgrade to the planetary institute, immediately gain the Gleens’ federation token (gaining the resources shown as normal). Gaining this tile counts as forming a federation. The planetary institute itself can still be part of a federation on the board.
|Swamp
|The Brainstone counts as one power token (when starting a Gaia Project, building satellites, etc.), but you can spend it as if it were three power.
|Each time you would charge power from “Passive Action: Charge Power,” you gain one power token. You can choose to gain the power before or after charging.
|Ambas
|Swamp
|NA
|Once per round, as an action, you can swap your planetary institute with one of your mines on the game board (this can help you form a new federation). This has no impact on existing federations, even if their power value becomes less than seven. The swap does not count as a build or upgrade action; no VP or power can be gained from it.
|Ivits
|Oxide
|During setup, do not place mines. Instead, after all other players have placed mines (including the Xenos’ third mine), place your planetary institute on any red planet. You can only have one federation, but each time the power value of your federation becomes a multiple of 7, you may take the "Form A Federation" action again. You must discard Q.I.C. instead of power tokens to make satellites.
|As a special action, place a space station on an accessible space that does not contain a planet or another space station. The accessibility of a space follows the same rules as the “Build a Mine” action.
|Volcanic
As a free action, you can move a Gaiaformer from a Gaiaformer space on your faction board to your Gaia area to gain one Q.I.C. Gaiaformers in your Gaia area are not available until the next Gaia phase. In the next Gaia phase, move any Gaiaformer in your Gaia area back to its Gaiaformer space.
|As an action, you can “downgrade” a research lab into a trading station and immediately advance one level in a research area of your choice. Advancing in a research area is explained on page 15. This counts as an “Upgrade to a Trading Station” action. You can later upgrade the trading station back into a research lab using the normal rules (including gaining a new tech tile).
|-
|Bescods
|Titanium
|The positions of your planetary institute and academies are swapped on your faction board, as is the income you gain for trading stations and research labs.
|You can spend power tokens in area III of your power cycle as if they were each two power. Otherwise, they count as one power token (when starting a Gaia Project, building satellites, etc.). When paying for a power action with an odd power cost (1, 3, 5, etc.), the unspent power is lost.
|-
|Itars
|Ice
|Each time you discard a power token from area II of your power cycle to move another power token to area III, place the discarded power token in your Gaia area instead of returning it to the supply.
|During the Gaia phase, you can discard 4 power tokens from your Gaia area to immediately gain a tech tile (standard or advanced).
|}

==Rules to Remember==
* Starting Resources (before receiving income at the beginning of Round 1) - Ore: 4, Knowledge: 3, Credits: 15.
* Resource Storage Limits - Ore: 15, Knowledge: 15, Credits: 30.

==Actions==

'''Ability:''' As a free action, you can move one power token from
area III of your power cycle to your Gaia area to gain one
knowledge (these power tokens follow the normal Gaia phase
rules). This does not count as spending power.

'''Planetary Institute:''' You can spend power tokens in area III of
your power cycle as if they were each two power. Otherwise,
they count as one power token (when starting a Gaia Project,
building satellites, etc.). When paying for a power action with an
odd power cost (1, 3, 5, etc.), the unspent power is lost.

'''Planet Type:''' Ice

'''Ability:''' Each time you discard a power token from area II of
your power cycle to move another power token to area III, place
the discarded power token in your Gaia area instead of returning
it to the supply.

'''Planetary Institute:''' During the Gaia phase, you can discard
4 power tokens from your Gaia area to immediately gain a tech
tile (standard or advanced).

==Rules to Remember==
* Starting Resources (before receiving income at the beginning of Round 1) - Ore: 4, Knowledge: 3, Credits: 15.
* Resource Storage Limits - Ore: 15, Knowledge: 15, Credits: 30.

==Actions==

=== Lantids ===
'''Planet Type:''' Terra

'''Ability:''' When you take the “Build a Mine” action, you may
build a mine on a planet colonized by an opponent (including the
Lost Planet). Place your mine next to the opponent’s structure.
You do not have to pay for terraforming, but you must still pay
the mine’s cost. This mine counts as a normal mine in all ways
except the following: this mine cannot be upgraded, and it does
not count for any effects that relate to how many planet types or
Gaia planets you have colonized.

'''Planetary Institute:''' Each time you build a mine on a planet
colonized by an opponent, gain two knowledge.

=== Xenos ===
'''Planet Type:''' Desert

'''Ability:''' You place a third starting mine after all other starting
mines have been placed.

'''Planetary Institute:''' You can form federations with a total
power value of six instead of seven. You gain one Q.I.C. as
income instead of one power token.

=== Gleens ===
'''Planet Type:''' Desert

'''Ability:''' If you would ever gain Q.I.C., gain that much ore
instead; once you have upgraded to the indicated academy, this
effect no longer applies. To make a Gaia Planet habitable, pay
one ore instead of one Q.I.C. Each time you build a mine on a
Gaia Planet, gain two additional VP.

'''Planetary Institute:''' When you upgrade
to the planetary institute, immediately gain
the Gleens’ federation token (gaining the
resources shown as normal). Gaining this
tile counts as forming a federation. The
planetary institute itself can still be part of
a federation on the board.

=== Taklons===
'''Planet Type:''' Swamp

'''Ability:''' The Brainstone counts as one power token
(when starting a Gaia Project, building satellites, etc.),
but you can spend it as if it were three power.

'''Planetary Institute:''' Each time you would charge power from
“Passive Action: Charge Power,” you gain one power token. You
can choose to gain the power before or after charging.

=== Ambas===
'''Planet Type:''' Swamp

'''Ability:''' - NA

'''Planetary Institute:''' Once per round, as an action, you can
swap your planetary institute with one of your mines on the
game board (this can help you form a new federation). This has
no impact on existing federations, even if their power value
becomes less than seven. The swap does not count as a build or
upgrade action; no VP or power can be gained from it.

=== Hadsch Hallas ===
'''Planet Type:''' Oxide

'''Planetary Institute:''' You can spend credits instead of power to
take free actions that allow you to gain resources.
Example: You can spend 3 credits to take the free action that
allows you to gain one ore.

=== Ivits ===
'''Planet Type:''' Oxide

'''Ability:''' During setup, do not place mines. Instead, after all other
players have placed mines (including the Xenos’ third mine),
place your planetary institute on any red planet. You can only have one federation, but each time the power value of your federation becomes a multiple of 7, you may take the "Form A Federation" action again. You must discard Q.I.C. instead of power tokens to make satellites.

'''Planetary Institute:''' As a special action, place a space station
on an accessible space that does not contain a planet or another
space station. The accessibility of a space follows the same rules
as the “Build a Mine” action.

=== Geodens ===
'''Planet Type:''' Volcanic

'''Ability:''' NA

'''Planetary Institute:''' The first time you build a mine on each
planet type, gain 3 knowledge. (You do not gain knowledge for
planet types you colonized before upgrading to your planetary
institute.)

===Bal T’aks===
'''Planet Type:''' Volcanic

'''Ability:''' You cannot advance in the “Navigation” research area,
even if you take the tech tile below the “Navigation” research area.
If you do take that tech tile, no advancement occurs.
As a free action, you can move a Gaiaformer from a Gaiaformer
space on your faction board to your Gaia area to gain one Q.I.C.
Gaiaformers in your Gaia area are not available until the next Gaia
phase. In the next Gaia phase, move any Gaiaformer in your Gaia
area back to its Gaiaformer space.

'''Planetary Institute:''' You can now advance in the “Navigation”
research area.

=== Firaks===
'''Planet Type:''' Titanium

'''Ability:''' NA

'''Planetary Institute:''' As an action, you can “downgrade” a
research lab into a trading station and immediately advance one
level in a research area of your choice. Advancing in a research
area is explained on page 15. This counts as an “Upgrade to a
Trading Station” action. You can later upgrade the trading station
back into a research lab using the normal rules (including gaining
a new tech tile).

=== Bescods===
'''Planet Type:''' Titanium

'''Ability:''' The positions of your planetary institute and academies
are swapped on your faction board, as is the income you gain
for trading stations and research labs. As with the other factions,
upgrading to an academy or a research lab allows you to gain a
tech tile.
Once per round, as an action, you can advance your lowest-level
token in a research area (without paying knowledge). If multiple
of your tokens are tied for the lowest level, choose which of
the tied tokens to advance. To advance to level 5 this way, you
must still flip a federation token as normal. Remember, only one
player can reach level 5 of each research area.

'''Planetary Institute:''' The power value of your structures on gray
planets (your home type) is increased by one (in addition to any
other effects that increase their power value).

=== Nevlas ===
'''Planet Type:''' Ice

'''Ability:''' As a free action, you can move one power token from
area III of your power cycle to your Gaia area to gain one
knowledge (these power tokens follow the normal Gaia phase
rules). This does not count as spending power.

'''Planetary Institute:''' You can spend power tokens in area III of
your power cycle as if they were each two power. Otherwise,
they count as one power token (when starting a Gaia Project,
building satellites, etc.). When paying for a power action with an
odd power cost (1, 3, 5, etc.), the unspent power is lost.
===Bal T’aks===

'''Planetary Institute:''' As an action, you can “downgrade” a
research lab into a trading station and immediately advance one
level in a research area of your choice. Advancing in a research
area is explained on page 15. This counts as an “Upgrade to a
Trading Station” action. You can later upgrade the trading station
back into a research lab using the normal rules (including gaining
a new tech tile).

=== Bescods===

'''Ability:''' As a free action, you can move one power token from
area III of your power cycle to your Gaia area to gain one
knowledge (these power tokens follow the normal Gaia phase
rules). This does not count as spending power.

'''Planetary Institute:''' You can spend power tokens in area III of
your power cycle as if they were each two power. Otherwise,
they count as one power token (when starting a Gaia Project,
building satellites, etc.). When paying for a power action with an
odd power cost (1, 3, 5, etc.), the unspent power is lost.

=== Itars ===

==Rules to Remember==
* Starting Resources (before receiving income at the beginning of Round 1) - Ore: 4, Knowledge: 3, Credits: 15.
* Resource Storage Limits - Ore: 15, Knowledge: 15, Credits: 30.

==Actions==

*Free Actions
*Passive Action: Charging power.
In general, if there's a white spark over a symbol, you gain that immediately, and if there's a hand symbol, you gain that as income each round.

Gaiaformers in your Gaia area are not available until the next Gaia
Once per round, as an action, you can advance your lowest-level
odd power cost (1, 3, 5, etc.), the unspent power is lost.
the discarded power token in your Gaia area instead of returning
it to the supply.

'''Planetary Institute:''' During the Gaia phase, you can discard
4 power tokens from your Gaia area to immediately gain a tech
tile (standard or advanced).

==Rules to Remember==
* Starting Resources (before receiving income at the beginning of Round 1) - Ore: 4, Knowledge: 3, Credits: 15.
* Resource Storage Limits - Ore: 15, Knowledge: 15, Credits: 30.

==Actions==
*1. Build a Mine. This places a mine on the board, which usually give you ore as income. These mines must be at most a distance away from another building of yours equal to your navigation (the second track from the left). You must pay the cost of the mine. If it's a Gaia planet (the green ones), you must also pay one QIC. If it's some other planet type, you must pay additional ore - the exact cost is determined by your gaiaforming ability (the first track from the left) and the planet cycle on your board.
*2. Start a Gaia Project. This allows you to transform nebula (purple clouds) into a Gaia planet. You can only do this if you have at least one available gaiaformer, which you can get as a result of the Gaia Project track (the fourth track from the left). To do this, move power tokens into the gaia section of your board. These tokens are not lost - you'll get them back as the last step of the income phase. At the start of the next round, these planets are now Gaia planets and you can build mines on them normally.
*3. Upgrade Existing Structure. Mines can be upgraded to Trade Centers, which usually produce credits - note that this has a cheaper cost if it's at least two units away from another player's building. Trade Centers can be upgraded to either a Planetary Institute, which produces power and unlocks an ability specific to your character, or Research Stations, which produce knowledge and allows you to immediately take a technology tile and advance on one of the tracks. These can be upgraded to Academies, which also let you gain more technologies and produce either knowledge or QIC.
*4. Form a Federation. This allows you to join together structures to gain more points. To do this, you need any cluster of structures whose total power level is 7 or more. This can include empty space as well, but for each empty space included this way, pay 1 power token from any bowl to create a satellite. For doing this, you gain a federation token, which gives you immediate points, some other resource bonus, and can be spent to advance to the top position of a research track or gain advanced technology tiles.
*5. Research Progress. Spend 4 knowledge to advance on any track. The tracks are gaiaforming, which increases your ability to gaiaform planets; navigation, which increases the range at which you can build more structures; artificial intelligence, which gives you more QIC; gaia project, which allows you to perform gaia project actions; economics, which increase your resource income; and science, which increases your research income. In general, if there's a white spark over a symbol, you gain that immediately, and if there's a hand symbol, you gain that as income each round.
*6. Power and Q.I.C. Actions. Spend power or QICs to take any of the actions at the bottom of the research board. Each of these can be taken once per round.
*7. Special Actions. Use any actions printed on booster tiles or your character board. These can also only be taken once per round.
*8. Pass. Select a new booster tile, then wait until all other players have passed.
*Free Actions
*Passive Action: Charging power.

'''Ability:''' If you would ever gain Q.I.C., gain that much ore
instead; once you have upgraded to the indicated academy, this
effect no longer applies. To make a Gaia Planet habitable, pay
one ore instead of one Q.I.C. Each time you build a mine on a
Gaia Planet, gain two additional VP.

'''Planetary Institute:''' When you upgrade
to the planetary institute, immediately gain
the Gleens’ federation token (gaining the
resources shown as normal). Gaining this
tile counts as forming a federation. The
planetary institute itself can still be part of
a federation on the board.
but you can spend it as if it were three power.

'''Planetary Institute:''' Each time you would charge power from
=== Ambas===
'''Planet Type:''' Swamp
game board (this can help you form a new federation). This has
no impact on existing federations, even if their power value
allows you to gain one ore.
=== Ivits ===
'''Planet Type:''' Oxide
players have placed mines (including the Xenos’ third mine),
place your planetary institute on any red planet. You can only have one federation, but each time the power value of your federation becomes a multiple of 7, you may take the "Form A Federation" action again. You must discard Q.I.C. instead of power tokens to make satellites.

'''Planetary Institute:''' As a special action, place a space station
