== Gameplay ==
A game of Pioneer Days is played over four rounds called WEEKS, each made up five DAYS.

Each player will have one turn per day to select a die and use it. At the end of the week, players will arrive in a new town, score points, and earn favors by satisfying the needs of the town.

== Start of a week ==

* 1. Put one set of dice (blue, yellow, green, red, black), plus one more set per player into the dice bag.
* 2. Remove any town cards from the previous week and deal two new ones from the deck to the indicated spaces. In the last week of the game there will be three town cards on the board instead of two.
* 3. Remove any remaining face-up equipment from the previous week to the box and reveal one new equipment tile, plus one more per player in the game.
* 4. Discard any remaining townsfolk cards from the previous week and deal out 6 new ones into the townsfolk spaces.

== A day in the life of a pioneer ==

* 1. The start player randomly draws one die, plus one more die per player, from the dice bag, and rolls them. This is the dice pool.
* 2. Starting with the start player and progressing clockwise, each player takes a turn. On your turn...
** a. Take a die from the pool and note the image on the die face.
** b. Check to see if you have any equipment or townsfolk that trigger based on that die face.
** c. You may then pay three silver to change the die to any face. Not, this new die face does not trigger equipment or townsfolk!
** d. Use the die in one of three ways, based on the die face showing. (INCOME, ACTION, RECRUIT)
** e. Discard the die.
* 3. After each player has taken a die, one die will remain. Advance the disaster marker on the track corresponding to the color of the remaining die. If a black die remained, advance ALL of the disaster markers one space each. When a marker reaches the end of its track, the corresponding disaster triggers immediately. When more than one disaster triggers at once, resolve them in order from top to bottom.
* 4. Pass the start player token clockwise to start the next day and repeat steps 1-4. After five days, the dice bag will be empty, and the week will be over.

== Main actions ==

* 1. '''INCOME''': Check the main board for the amount of silver you get based on your die face. ($1 - $6)
* 2. '''DICE ACTIONS''': Based on the die face showing on your die, take one of the following actions:
** ''Wild'': You may take any one of the other dice actions: Mine, Equip, Cattle, Wood or Medicine.
** ''Mine'': Draw one gold token from the gold bag and place it face down on a space in one of your wagons. You may see the token. You can store one gold token per space.
** ''Equip'': Take any one of the available equipment tiles and place in on one of your wagons. You can store one equipment per space.
** ''Cattle'': Take one cattle from the stock and add it to your herd, next to your wagons.
** ''Wood'': Take one wood from the stock and place it on one of your wagons. You can store two wood per space.
** ''Medicine'': Take one medicine from the stock and place it on one of your wagons. You can store two medicine per space.
* 3. '''RECRUIT A TOWNSFOLK''': Take the townsfolk card from the slot matching the die face on your die. Townsfolks do not take up space in your wagons. Townsfolks have either an immediate effect, a triggered effect, or an ongoing effect. At the end of the game, surviving townsfolks will score points based on their endgame scoring conditions.

== Buying wagons ==
During your turn, you may spend $5 to get a small wagon (four spaces) or $8 to get a large wagon (six spaces). You may buy as many wagons as you can afford.

== Disasters ==

* 1. '''STORMS''': Pay one wood for each wagon or place a damage token covering two of that wagon's spaces. No items can be stored on spaces with a damage token, and any items that cannot be stored as a result must be returned to stock. Each damage token on wagons at the end of the game is worth -2 VP.
* 2. '''RAID''': Return half of your silver coins, rounded up, back into the stock. You may not buy items prior resolving the raid.
* 3. '''FAMINE''': For each of your cattle, you must pay one silver. Any cattle you cannot pay for are returned to stock.
* 4. '''DISEASE''': For each townsfolk you have, either pay one medicine, or discard that townsfolk.

== End of a week - Visiting a town ==
At the end of a day when the dice bag is empty, the week ends, and you arrive at a town, where you do the following three things, in order:

* 1. Resolve any townsfolk card effect that take place at the end of the week.
* 2. Gain one VP for each cattle you have.
* 3. Satisfy the needs of the face up town cards in order to earn favors. Each player may satisfy each card's requirements once, by discarding ALL of the items required. The town rewards any player satisfying the needs of a card with a number of favors indicated on that card. Favors are not stored on wagons.

== Final disasters ==
After the fourth and final week of the game, before visiting the town, advance each disaster track one final time. Resolve any disasters triggered from this in order, from top to bottom. After resolving the final disasters, visit the town on last time.

== End of the game, scoring ==
The game ends after the final town is visited. Note that the final town has three location cards with needs to be satisfied.

* - Gain 1 VP per nugget displayed on your gold tokens (1, 2, or 3).
* - Gain 2 VPs per favor. If you have (or are tied for) the most favor tokens, gain 5 VPs.
* - Gain VP according to your townsfolk. Check the bottom of each townsfolk card to see how many VP to gain.
* - Lose 2 VPs for each damage token on your wagons.

The winner is the player with the most VPs. In the case of a tie, the tied player with the most remaining silver wins. If there is still a tie, then share the victory.

# Put 1 set of dice (blue, yellow, green, red, black), plus 1 more set per player into the dice bag.
# Remove any town cards from the previous week and deal 2 new ones from the deck to the indicated spaces. In the last week of the game there will be 3 town cards on the board instead of 2.
# Remove any remaining face-up equipment from the previous week to the box and reveal 1 new equipment tile, plus 1 more per player in the game.
# Discard any remaining townsfolk cards from the previous week and deal out 6 new ones into the townsfolk spaces.

== A day in the life of a pioneer ==

# The start player randomly draws 1 die, plus 1 more die per player, from the dice bag, and rolls them. This is the dice pool.
# Starting with the start player and progressing clockwise, each player takes a turn. On your turn...
#* Take a die from the pool and note the image on the die face.
#* Check to see if you have any equipment or townsfolk that trigger based on that die face.
#* You may then pay 3 silver to change the die to any face. Not, this new die face does not trigger equipment or townsfolk!
#* Use the die in 1 of 3 ways, based on the die face showing. (INCOME, ACTION, RECRUIT)
#* Discard the die.
# After each player has taken a die, one die will remain.
# Pass the start player token clockwise to start the next day, and repeat steps 1-4. After 5 days, the dice bag will be empty, and the week will be over.

== Main actions ==

# '''INCOME''': Check the main board for the amount of silver you get based on your die face.
# '''DICE''' '''ACTIONS''': Based on the die face showing on your die, take one of the following actions:
#* ''Wild'': You may take any one of the other dice actions: Mine, Equip, Cattle, Wood or Medicine.
#* ''Mine'': Draw 1 gold token from the gold bag and place it face down on a space in one of your wagons. You may see the token. You can store 1 gold token per space.
#* ''Equip'': Take any 1 of the available equipment tiles and place in on one of your wagons. You can store 1 equipment per space.
#* ''Cattle'': Take 1 cattle from the stock and att it to your herd, next to your wagons.
#* ''Wood'': Take 1 wood from the stock and place it on one of your wagons. You can store 2 wood per space.
#* ''Medicine'': Take 1 medicine from the stock and place it on one of your wagons. You can store 2 medicine per space.
# '''RECRUIT A TOWNSFOLK''': Take the townsfolk card from the slot matching the die face on your die. Townsfolks do not take up space in your wagons. Townsfolks have either an immediate effect, a triggered effect, or an ongoing effect. At the end of the game, surviving townsfolks will score points based on their endgame scoring conditions.

== Buying wagons ==
During your turn, you may spend 5$ to get a small wagon (4 spaces) or 8$ to get a large wagon (6 spaces). You may buy as many wagons as you can afford.

== Disasters ==

# '''STORMS''': Pay 1 wood for each wagon or place a damage token covering 2 of that wagon's spaces. No items can be stored on spaces with a damage token, and any items that cannot be stored as a result must be returned to stock. Each wagons at the end of the game is worth -2 VP.
# '''RAID''': Return half of your silver coins, rounded up, back into the stock. You may not buy items prior resolving the raid.
# '''FAMINE''': For each of your cattle, you must pay 1 silver. Any cattle you cannot pay for are returned to stock.
# '''DISEASE''': For each townsfolk you have, either pay 1 medicine, or discard that townsfolk.

== End of a week - Visiting a town ==
At the end of a day when the dice bag is empty, the week ends, and you arrive at a town, where you do the following three things, in order:

# Resolve any townsfolk card effect that take place at the end of the week.
# Gain 1 VP for each cattle you have.
# Satisfy the needs of the face up town cards in order to earn favors. Each player may satisfy each card's requirements once, by discarding ALL of the items required. The town rewards any player satisfying the needs of a card with a number of favors indicated on that card. Favors are not stored on wagons.

== Final disasters ==
After the 4th and final week of the game, before visiting the town, advance each disaster track one final time. Resolve any disasters triggered from this in order, from top to bottom. After resolving the final disasters, visit the town on last time.

== End of the game, scoring ==
The game ends after the final town is visited. Note that the final town has 3 location cards with needs to be satisfied.

* Gain 1 VP per nugget displayed on your gold tokens (1, 2, or 3).
* Gain 2VPs per favor. If you have (or are tied for) the most favor tokens, gain 5VPs.
* Gain VP according to your townsfolk. Check the bottom of each townsfolk card to see how many VP to gain.
* Lose 2VPs for each damage token on your wagons.

The winner is the player with the most VPs. In the case of a tie, the tied player with the most remaining silver wins. If there is still a tie, then share the victory.

== Game Round ==

Reconstructing the panorama
On your turn, select a tile from your hand and check if a capture is taking place.

- If the value or color of this tile matches that of one of the face-up tiles in the queue, that map in the queue is captured. If more than one tile is snappable, you can only capture one of them. The played and captured tiles are then placed on their location in the mountain panorama. If there was a face-down tile underneath the captured tile, the captured tile is turned face up.

- Second chance: If no capture is possible with the selected tile, it is placed in the queue, face up. Then, draw a tile from the deck to attempt a new capture. If possible, a capture is made in the same way.

- If the drawn tile still doesn't allow capture, it's added to the queue, face up, and you earn a rainbow tile. Place this tile in the empty location of your choice in your panorama.

You finish your turn by drawing a panorama tile.

Note: If you later retrieve a tile that corresponds to a position where a rainbow is located:

- If the rainbow is stuck under a spirit, the panorama tile is discarded;

- If the rainbow is free, you can move the rainbow somewhere else and place the panorama tile in its location.

== Spirits ==

You encounter one spirit per turn, if you have formed a square of 4 panorama tiles. During a meeting, you can:

- Meet 1 spirit face up, next to the spirit pickaxe;

- Draw 2 spirits face down, meet 1 of them and place the other face up next to the pickaxe.

The spirit encountered is placed in the center of the square newly formed by the panorama tiles.

Be careful, even if you make several squares in your panorama during the same game turn, you can only encounter one Spirit on that turn.

== Endgame ==

When the panorama deck is depleted, players continue to take turns, as long as they can capture with a tile in hand. If you can't take a tile, you have to pass. The game ends when both players have passed.

== Scoring ==
In your largest adjacent tile area, each panorama tile earns 1 star. Rainbow cards can be used to expand your area, but they don't earn points in this context.

Each tile with a fire icon, which can be connected by a continuous path of tiles to the bottom line, is worth 1 star.

Some spirits give extra stars at the end of the game.

=BASE GAME=

==Objective==
Score as many points as you can by optimizing the routes of 4 Underground lines through 13 districts on your map of London

==Game Play==
The game is played over 4 rounds. In each round, follow the 4 phases in order:

====1. Find your Station====
Each new underground starts at a special starting station for its color (it will be flashing).

====2. Building Sections====
This phase comprises of several turns (between 5 and 10), depending on the Station cards that are flipped over. There are a total of 11 Station cards: 6 Street cards (blue background) and 5 Underground Cards (pink and yellow background).

On each turn, a Station card with a symbol is flipped over. Players have the option to draw a line to add a section of their current line to a connected station with the corresponding symbol.

When the 5th Underground card (pink and yellow background) is flipped, it signals the end of this round. Players have the option to draw the last section and then proceed to the next phase.

====3. Round Scoring====
Each Underground scores points based on the following features:

*The number of districts (yellow boxes) your line goes through
*Find district with the most stations passed through, add the number of stations that were passed
*How many times it crosses under the Thames (each section counts 2 points)

You will also count the number of tourist sites (spiky stations) your line passes through. For each site passed, cross off one circle on your tourist site track at the bottom of your score card. At the end of the game, you will score the leftmost uncrossed circle.

====4. Finish Round====
After each round, players pass their pencil to the next player on their left.

In a 2 or 3 player game, if there is an unused pencil to your right, take it instead.

==End of Game / Final Scoring==
Game ends after 4 rounds. On your score card, add up the following points:

*- All the points scored from your 4 color Underground lines.

*- The leftmost uncrossed circle on your tourist site track

*- Interchange station points

----

There are 3 types of interchange stations: those connecting 2, 3, or 4 '''different''' color Underground lines

Count the number of interchange stations of each type across your whole network:

- Score 2 points per each interchange connecting 2 lines
- Score 5 points per each interchange connecting 3 lines
- Score 9 points per each interchange connecting 4 lines.

----

The player with the highest score wins the game! In the event of a tie, the player with the highest score for a single Underground line wins. If a tie persists, the players involved share the victory.

==Construction Rules==

Remember, drawing a section is always optional. If you cannot or do not want to draw a section during a turn, you can ignore it and wait until the next card is shown.

The first section of an Underground line must always be drawn from your current departure station.

Each station after this must be drawn from either end of your line and must connect to a station with the same symbol as shown on the flipped over station card.

'''Exception:''' If a Railroad switch is flipped over, players have the option to draw a new section starting from ANY station on their line to a station with the revealed symbol.

====Adding a Section====
* Each section that you draw must be a single straight line going horizontally, vertically or diagonally following the grey potential lines laid out on the map
* Each section must always link two stations together without crossing through another station.
* You cannot cross through a section of any line that has already been drawn, except at stations.
* You cannot connect to a station that is already part of your current line (no loops)
* You cannot draw more than one section per grey potential line. (no doubling up)

=ADVANCED MODULES=
For a new challenge, you can play Next Station London with its advanced modules. Add either Shared Objective cards or Pencil Power cards into the mix, or even play with both sets of cards!

==Shared Objectives==
Randomly select 2 of the 5 shared objectives. These 2 independent objectives remain visible for the whole game. Each player scores 10 extra points at the end of the game for each completed objective.

==Pencil Powers==
Each Pencil Power card is linked to one single pencil color for the entire game. Each power is helpful but can only be used once per round. Using Pencil Powers is optional and you do not have to use them in every round.

'''54 blocks''' comprising a full set of playing cards plus two jokers. ''Jokers are not wild'', but instead give a player a special action during the Building your Hands phase. Shuffle all 54 blocks together face down into the general supply; each player then takes 15 blocks to put in their personal supply face down without looking at them.

Place the '''Pyramid foundation board''' between the two players.

==Building the Pyramid==
Players take turns choosing one block from their personal supply and placing it on the pyramid. Blocks must either be placed directly on the foundation board or centered on a pair of blocks already in place. You should place the block so that only you can see the face of it. Continue alternating placement of blocks until all 30 blocks have been set into the pyramid structure.

==Building your Hands==
Players now take turns removing blocks from the pyramid to form poker hands. Take any block with no blocks on top of it and look at the face. '''If you have chosen a Joker block''', discard that block and turn over three tiles from the general supply; choose one of these blocks to keep and discard the other two. Now choose one of your three Hands for that block; Hands are limited to 5 blocks each.
===Basic Scoring===
Compare each players Hands, one at a time, according to the poker Hand Rankings below. Higher rank wins the Hand. Winning two out of three Hands wins the game.
