== House rules ==

In this implementation, all 2-player rules have been excluded. All games follow the rules for 3+ players. This means, for example, players don't have to ask the 4 types of questions before continuing with normal play.
== Rules ==

Digit Code is a deduction game with the goal of establishing the identity of 6 numbers selecting from 0 to 9.
The game board mimics classic LED readouts with each number placement represented by 7 "LEDs". The game begins with no LED activated/lit.

----

Each turn consists of gathering clues as to each numbers identity by learning:

* Number of LEDs used for the final solution in columns or rows

* If a number is an odd or even number

* If a number is greater than or less than the number to its left

* If a space/LED is empty or filled

----

Players can see the answers to each others questions.

----

The question mark button in the far bottom left of the screen illustrates the pattern of LEDs used for each number

----

Numbers adjacent either horizontally or vertically cannot be identical.

----

Each number can appear a maximum of 2 times
----

Notes can be taken, be sure to save your notes after each turn or they will be lost.

Notes are taken by either:

* Clicking on numbers listed to the right of each number position to indicate elimination

* Clicking on individual LEDs to either indicate inclusion or exclusion within the final solution.

The seven-segment digits are represented as the following LED patterns:
By sending ultrasonic waves deep into the ground and analyzing the signals that return, we can determine the position and condition of the gemstones. Although signals sometimes return abnormally, as experts, we will ultimately find the gemstones—just as we always have.

GOAL OF THE GAME

Be the first player to deduce the exact positions of all of the gemstones.

=== SETUP ===
In the BGA adaptation, there's no quiz master. The puzzle is randomly set-up and shared by all players. The original 2-player rules are not used.

GAMEBOARD

The BGA implementation has 3 sections of note. A gridded map, gemstone overlay pieces, and the game log. The gridded map has identifiers for the left and right side of each row and the top and bottom of each column. As turns progress, these identifiers will be color coded to reflect known information. The gemstone overlay pieces may be dragged onto the gridded area to document the suspected or known orientations of the gemstones as well as empty cells. The 4 corners of the gridded area have tools for saving the gemstone overlay, clearing the gridded area, show/hide gemstone piece overlay, and show/hide gemstone piece overlay controls. The game log will identify the details of the player actions to enable the deduction.

TURN STRUCTURE

On your turn you may do 1 of the following 3 actions:

1) Send Ultrasound Wave

Choose a starting position on the end of the gridded area. The ultrasound wave will be transmitted in a straight line from this spot. The players will be informed of the exit location as well as a color designation which will act as a clue as to which gemstones, if any, the ultrasound wave bounced against.

2) Ask About Specific Position

In this instance, the player picks a specific coordinate on the gridded area and is informed what color gemstone occupies that space, if any.

3) Submit Answer

If a player believes to know the exact locations/orientations of all of the gemstones they may overlay the gemstones on the gridded area and submit their answer. If they are correct, they win.

81 blocks are placed on the board such that no two of the same color are orthogonally adjacent (diagonally adjacent is OK). There are 9 blocks in 9 different colors.

Players alternate turns taking blocks from the board according to the following rules:

1) Blocks may only be taken if they have at least 2 adjacent sides exposed (i.e. they are on a corner)
2) You must always take at least one block on your turn (You may not pass)

::~ you may take as many blocks as you like on a turn, as long as they are all the same color
::~ You are not required to take all of the available blocks of that color. You may opt to leave one or more behind
3) A block may not be taken if it would divide the remaining blocks into two separate groups (counting orthogonal connections only)

The blocks you collect are organized on a color table. The amount and location of the blocks on the color table matter for winning.

'''WINNING THE GAME'''

A player wins the game immediately if they achieve either of the following:

1) Collect all 9 blocks of one color
2) Collect at least 7 blocks of each of three colors that are adjacent on the color table

If neither player is able to accomplish either of these, the winner is the player with the majority of majorities (5 or more pieces in each of 5 or more colors).

'''13 COLOR VARIANT'''

In the expanded 13-color version, a player wins the game immediately if they achieve either of the following:

1) Collect all 13 blocks of one color
2) Collect at least 10 blocks of each of three colors that are adjacent on the color table

If neither player is able to accomplish either of these, the winner is the player with the majority of majorities (7 or more pieces in each of 7 or more colors).

'''HEXAGONAL VARIANT'''

The hexagonal variant is also 13 colors, but the pieces are arranged in a hexagon instead of a square. All the rules are the same, except that you may only take pieces if they have at least three adjacent sides exposed, not two.

During their turns, the players choose one of the following actions:

'''Manage Keepers''' - The player can choose to hire, replace or dismiss a zookeeper, from one of the available piles and place/remove it at/from one of the zookeeper houses.

'''Save Species''' - The player can choose to save a species from the visible ones at the table or from his quarantine areas, by paying the necessary resources. The species needs to comply with one of the zookeeper objectives and is placed under him at the playmat. A zookeeper is full when he has 3 saved species under him.
Bonus action: send a species to other players quarantine, if he has more saved species than you.

'''Move Species''' - The player can choose to move up to 2 cards by discarding any species from the grid and/or move to his quarantine areas. A quarantined specie can't be moved and may only be saved by the owner from that moment on.
Species grid - Every time a species is removed from the table, the next player moves the column of cards down so that new species are visible.

'''Collect Resources''' - The player can take up to 6 resources randomly from the bag, one for each specie he has saved (under his zookeepers).

== Free Actions During a Turn ==

'''Species grid refresh''' - When there are only 2 columns of species on the table, the active player can discard them and place another 12 specie cards on the table from the top of the deck.

'''Conservation Fund''' - When saving a species, each white resource can be used as 2 red or green resources. Additionally, at the beginning of his turn, the player take any extra resources from the bag, choose the ones he wants to keep and return in double to the bag.

== End of Turn ==

At the end of their turn, the players can only have a maximum of 12 resources, out of which, a maximum of 5 white resources. Any excess resources will need to be discarded.

== Game options ==

'''Secret objectives''' - This game mode introduces a new card type: secret objectives.
Each player receives one of these cards at the beginning of the game. They allow the players to obtain additional victory points by saving certain kinds of species. The objective depends on the total recruited zookeepers points, so it can change during the course of the game.

== Scoring ==

Game ends after a player saves 9 species. Victory points are calculated in the following way:

*X* points for each completed zookeepers

*X* points for each saved specie

*-2 points for each quarantined specie

*X* points for each saved specie that meets the secret objective.

A match is made of '''2 rounds''', and each round is made of '''2 hands''' (total of 4 hands).

=== Card ranking ===

Mate is a trick-taking game, so cards and suits are ranked to determine the trick winner, as follows:

* A > 10 > K > Q > 7 ('''A''' strongest, '''7''' weakest);
* Clubs > spades > hearts > diamonds ('''clubs''' strongest, '''diamonds''' weakest).

== Hand ==

When the first hand starts, the deck is shuffled and '''10 cards''' are dealt to each player. That means '''all cards are dealt and players know their opponent's hand'''. Then, up to '''10 tricks''' are played, following these steps:

* The first player plays any card from their hand;
* The second one plays other card of the '''same suit''', if possible. If they don't have a card of the current suit, they may play a card of other suit, but of the '''same value''' of the first card;
* Whoever played the strongest card wins the trick and starts the next one.

If the second player doesn't have any '''playable card''' (no card of the current suit or value), that's a '''mate'''. The hand is finished and '''the first player of the trick''' (who forced the mate) '''scores'''! If all tricks are played without a mate, it's a '''tie''' and '''nobody scores'''.

=== Calculating points ===

Points are calculated according to the '''card used to force the mate''' and the '''number of tricks played''' in the hand (including the current one). The weight of the card is multiplied by the number of tricks ('''weight''' x '''tricks''' = '''points'''). The longer you take a hand before a mate, the better.

'''Weights''':

* A -> '''11''';
* 10 -> '''10''';
* 7 -> '''7''';
* K -> '''4''';
* Q -> '''3'''.

For instance, if a player forces a mate with a '''K''' in the '''7th trick''', they score '''28 points'''.

== Between hands and rounds ==

After the first hand of the first round, '''the deck is NOT shuffled''': '''players exchange all their cards''' and a new hand starts. This removes luck from the game.

After the second hand of the first round, '''the deck is shuffled''', cards are dealt and the second (and last) round starts. '''It's played exactly as the first one''', with 2 hands.

== Game end ==

The game ends when the second round is finished. '''The player with more points wins'''.

== Basic info ==

Mate is a '''2 player game''' of '''perfect information''' played with 20 standard cards: the '''7''', '''10''', '''Q''', '''K''' and '''A''' of each suit. A match is made of '''2 rounds''', and each round is made of '''2 hands''' (total of 4 hands).

=== Card ranking ===

Mate is a trick-taking game, so cards and suits are ranked to determine the trick winner, as follows:

* A > 10 > K > Q > 7 ('''A''' strongest, '''7''' weakest);
* Clubs > spades > hearts > diamonds ('''clubs''' strongest, '''diamonds''' weakest).

== Hand ==

When the first hand starts, the deck is shuffled and '''10 cards''' are dealt to each player. That means '''all cards are dealt and players know their opponent's hand'''. Then, up to '''10 tricks''' are played, following these steps:

* The first player plays any card from their hand;
* The second one plays other card of the '''same suit''', if possible. If they don't have a card of the current suit, they may play a card of other suit, but of the '''same value''' of the first card;
* Whoever played the strongest card wins the trick and starts the next one.

If the second player doesn't have any '''playable card''' (no card of the current suit or value), that's a '''mate'''. The hand is finished and '''the first player of the trick''' (who forced the mate) '''scores'''! If all tricks are played without a mate, it's a '''tie''' and '''nobdoy scores'''.

=== Calculating points ===

Points are calculated according to the '''card used''' to force the mate and the '''number of tricks played''' (including the current one). The weight of the card is multiplied by the number of tricks ('''weight''' x '''tricks''' = '''points'''). The longer you take a hand before a mate, the better.

'''Weights''':

* A -> '''11''';
* 10 -> '''10''';
* 7 -> '''7''';
* K -> '''4''';
* Q -> '''3'''.

For instance, if a player forces a mate with a '''K''' in the '''7th trick''', they score '''28 points'''.
