0SJW0: /* Card Formations */

== Gameplay ==

On your turn, you must perform these two actions in order:

# **Play a Card:** Choose one card from your hand and place it face-up on your side of any Stone that doesn't yet have three cards on your side. Once a card is placed, it cannot be moved.
# **Draw a Card:** Draw the top card of the deck to replenish your hand. If the deck is empty, you continue playing without drawing cards.

== Claiming a Stone ==

* After you play a card but **before** you draw a new one, you may claim one or more Stones.
* To claim a Stone, your three-card combination (formation) on that Stone must be stronger than your opponent's.
* Generally, a Stone can only be claimed once a player has placed all three of their cards for that Stone.
* You can, however, claim a Stone even if your opponent has not yet played all three cards, but only if you can **prove** they cannot possibly form a stronger combination. This proof must be based only on cards already played on the table (your own hand does not count as proof).
* When you successfully claim a Stone, move it to your side of the border. No more cards may be played on this Stone.

== Card Formations ==

Combinations of cards are called formations. They are ranked from strongest to weakest:

# **Color-Run:** Three cards of the same color with consecutive strengths (e.g., a red 7, red 8, and red 9).
# **Three of a Kind:** Three cards of the same strength (e.g., a 4, a 4, and a 4).
# **Color:** Three cards of the same color (e.g., three green cards).
# **Run:** Three cards with consecutive strengths of any color (e.g., a blue 5, a red 6, and a yellow 7).
# **Sum:** Any other combination of three cards.

== Tie-Breakers ==

* If two competing formations are of the same type (e.g., both are a "Color"), the one with the **highest total strength** (the sum of the card values) wins.
* If the strength totals are also tied, the player who played their third card to the Stone **first** wins the Stone.

== End of the Game & Scoring ==

The game ends immediately when a player achieves either of the following victory conditions:
* Controls *three adjacent Stones*.
* Controls a total of *five Stones* anywhere along the border.

The first player to achieve one of these conditions wins the game.

For multi-round play:
* The winner receives **5 victory points**.
* The opponent receives **1 victory point for each Stone** they control.

===Overview===

Combine cards to make whole numbers e.g. 5-2-8 is 852, and play the highest value combos in order to empty your hand the fastest.

54 cards numbered 1 to 9 in 6 colors.
===Turn===

The first player plays 1 card

Following players can play 1 or more cards

The value of the card(s) played must be greater than what is already on the table

Values of multiple cards are combined in such a way to form a whole number of the highest value possible e.g. two cards will form a value in the 10s e.g. 3 and 4 make 43, three cards will form a value in the 100s e.g. 5-2-8 will form 852, and so on

You can play the same quantity of cards as previously played, or exactly 1 more than it, i.e. if there are three cards out, you can play 3 or 4 cards with a higher combined value, but not 5 cards

If you play more than one card, they must all be of the same numeral or same suit e.g. 888 or 5-3-1 of all blue

Once you have played a valid card(s), take one of the cards from the play you just defeated into your hand and discard the rest of the old cards

If you cannot or do not wish to play, you can pass, but you still get a turn when it next comes round to you

===Round End===

If you were the last to change the game state and it comes round to you to play again, you just won the round

The play area is cleared and you may start again with a new single card as first player

===Hand End===

If you start the round, and all cards in your hand are the same suit or value, you can play your whole hand instead of just one card and end the hand

Otherwise, when a player empties their hand the Hand is over

Everyone gains 1 point per card still in their hand when this is triggered - Be mindful that on the BGA adaptation, you lose points instead of gaining them

===Game End===

Depending on the length of the game, the game ends when a player reaches or exceeds 10/15/20 points

The player with the fewest points, wins!

0SJW0: /* Overview */

===Overview===

Play two rounds of tricks, one with random cards and another with cards gained from the first round, in order to control the most Factions at game's end

===Phase One===

This phase consists of thirteen tricks

Flip over a card to display the card you will be trying to win this trick

The Leader plays any card from their hand, it does not have to relate to the flipped card

The Follower either plays a card of the same Faction as the Leader's card, a Doppleganger, or any card if they don't hold a card of the same Faction

The player who played the highest Lead Faction card wins the trick

The winner takes the displayed card into their followers whilst the loser takes a blind card from the deck into theirs

If an Undead card was played (but not displayed) then it will go to the winner's score pile (a Displayed Undead goes to the Followers pile as normal)

Any other played cards are discarded

A new trick starts with the winner of that trick

Note: Your score cards are faceup and visible, whilst your Follower cards are facedown and hidden

The phase ends when the players are out of hand cards (i.e. played 13 tricks)

===Phase Two===

This is played similar to the first phase, except instead of being dealt 13 random cards, you instead use the 13 cards you collected during phase one

The main difference is that instead of competing for a known displayed card, the winner of each trick takes both played cards into their Score pile instead

===Game End===

The game ends at the end of Phase Two (or 26 Tricks)

Each player divides their Score cards into the various Factions

Whoever has the most cards of a single Faction, wins that Faction

If tied, the player with the highest value card in that Faction, wins that Faction

The player who wins 3 Factions wins the game!

===Faction Powers===

Goblins - numbered 0-9, with five 0’s - have no powers

Knights - 8 Knights numbered 2-9 - beat Goblins regardless of value

Undead - numbered 0-9 - are used as score cards for the winner, instead of being discarded, but only during Phase One

Dwarves - numbered 0-9 - are collected into the score pile of the loser of a trick, but only during Phase Two

Doppleganger - numbered 0-9 - may be considered any Faction but does not possess its Faction Powers. You may play a Doppleganger even if you hold the real Faction cards in hand. If the Leader starts with a Doppleganager, the lead Faction is considered Doppleganger.

On your turn, first play a card from your hand and activate its effect OR discard up to 3 cards facedown into the Wilderness

After which, draw back up to 4 cards from either the faceup Tavern or the facedown Harbour deck

After which, discard down to 3 cards facedown to the Wilderness

Some Heroes are played hidden, and these may be later revealed but their actions won't be triggered, hidden heroes do NOT count towards end game trigger but do count for scoring

After which, first determine the winning faction

Undead win if red & green are both in the dark spaces, if this causes a tie with the other win conditions Undead win

Water Folk win if red & green are in the same space or on adjacent spaces

Empire wins if red is at least 2 spaces ahead of green

Tribes win if green is at least 2 spaces ahead of red

If your secret leader matches the winning team, you MAY win

If you are the ONLY player with a matching leader, you win!

If multiple players match, the player with the most heroes of the winning faction wins!

If tied, the player with the lowest total heroes wins!
