The biggest handicap in the game is if your villagers go gluten-free. Then you need to harvest hummus and carrots from the next village over. It's not pretty. To reach the next village, you need to build a bridge and that requires researching water production. This is where the not so pretty part comes in. In order to research water, a villager needs to be sacrificed to the water god.

Production is overrated. Your people just want to eat and go to rock concerts.

Science is important. Very important.

You may think that researching fire is a good idea but then your dumb villagers will burn down their huts.

This game isn't realistic. You don't need to think about replenishing your resources, just gather food.
