W grze może brać udział dwóch lub czterech graczy. Plansza złożona jest z 81 kwadratów, po których poruszają się pionki reprezentujące graczy. Na początku rozgrywki pionki należy ustawić po środku przeciwległych krawędzi planszy. Celem gry jest zostaniem pierwszym graczem, który dotrze do startowego rzędu przeciwnika. Można to uczynić poruszając się o jedno pole w 4 kierunkach lub stawiając ogrodzenia uniemożliwiające przejście. W rozgrywce dwuosobowej każdy posiada 10 drewnianych płytek, a w rozgrywce czteroosobowej po 5. Gracze wykonują ruch jeden po drugim w kolejności według ruchów zegara (pierwszy gracz jest losowany). Nie wolno całkowicie zablokować przeciwnika - zawsze musi istnieć przynajmniej jedno przejście. Istnieje także zasada mówiąca o możliwości przeskoczenia pionka przeciwnika w sytuacji, gdy stoją na przeciwko siebie w sąsiadujących polach.

Overview

  • Abstract game played on a 9×9 board.
  • 2 or 4 players.
  • The first player to move their pawn to the opposite side of the board wins.
  • Walls can be placed to restrict pawn moves.

Game play

  • Each player has one pawn which starts in the middle of their respective side.
  • 20 walls are distributed equally to all players.
    • i.e. 2 players: 10 each.
    • i.e. 4 players: 5 each.
  • Players take turns to either:
  1. Move their pawn
    OR
  2. Place a wall

Move a pawn

Legal pawn moves I

The white pawn may move backwards, to the left or jump over the black pawn.

A pawn may not move through a wall or onto the same square as another pawn.

Legal pawn moves II

The forward jump is blocked by a wall.

The active white pawn may additionally move to squares orthogonally adjacent to the black pawn.

  • Adjacent squares in orthogonal directions.
    • i.e. forwards, backwards, or sideways.
  • Not through a wall.
  • Not onto the same square as another pawn.
  • Jump over an orthogonally adjacent pawn:
    1. Two squares in the direction of the adjacent pawn.
      • If there is no other pawn, fence or board edge preventing this move to the destination square.
    2. Otherwise one square diagonally.
      • If there is no other pawn, fence or board edge preventing this move to the destination square.
      • i.e. the active pawn moves to the adjacent pawn and then one square at a right angle.
  • Note: jumps are never mandatory.

Place a wall

  • Each wall is two squares long.
