Summary of the Game

Papayoo is a trick-taking game with five suits: spades, hearts, clubs, diamonds, and payoo. The object of the game is to take as few points as possible.

Negative points are bad.

The Cards in Play

Spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds have 10 cards each, numbered from 1-10. Payoo has 20 cards, numbered from 1-20.

Payoo cards are worth points equal to their number value. Additionally, the 7 of one of the other suits is worth 40 points. See Gameplay for more details.

Gameplay

In each round, all of the cards are dealt. Depending on the number of players, choose 3-5 cards to pass to the player to your left. See Distribution of the cards in the "More Information" section for more details on how the number of cards is calculated.

Once all players have passed cards, an eight-sided die is rolled. Whichever side lands face up determines which 7 card is worth points in that round. For example, if spades is rolled, the 7 of spades is worth 40 points.

Then, the players start playing tricks. In each trick, you must follow suit if possible. There is no trump suit; the highest card in the led suit wins the trick. Whoever takes the trick leads the next trick.

When all the cards in your hand are played, the round ends. The number of rounds is determined before the game.

More Information

Distribution of cards - Players receive cards, according to the table below:
